We’ve got no less than five more new disc reviews for you all to enjoy today...
I’ve just posted my thoughts on Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs (1992) in 4K Ultra HD from Lionsgate.
Stephen has checked in with a look at Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) in 4K Ultra HD from Vinegar Syndrome.
Dennis has reviewed Julien Temple’s Earth Girls Are Easy (1988), the new Vestron Video Collector’s Series title on Blu-ray from Lionsgate.
And Tim has taken a look at Lewis Gilbert’s Damn the Defiant! (1962) on Blu-ray from Imprint Films, as well as Montgomery Tully and Dennis O’Keefe’s The Diamond Wizard (1954) on Blu-ray 3D from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, via a great new restoration by the 3-D Film Archive.
In announcement news today, Lionsgate has set Hype Williams’ Belly for release on 4K Ultra HD on 1/24/23. There will be a wide release that includes a Blu-ray and Digital copy, along with a Best Buy-exclusive Steelbook package. Look for the package to have a new Dolby Atmos mix, along with the following special features: audio commentary with Williams, Spoken Word, a deleted scene, and the Grand Finale music video. Imprint bows its first 4K title, Warner’s LOTR experiential NFT something or other, new disc releases & unfortunate Criterion layoff news
We’re finishing out the week here at The Bits beginning with two more new disc reviews, including...
Tim’s look at Martin Campbell’s No Escape (1994, aka Escape from Absolom) on Blu-ray from Unearthed Films.
And Dennis’ take on Joseph Anthony’s The Rainmaker (1956) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
And we definitely have some significant news to report today, both in terms of titles and more general industry goings-on...
First up, Imprint Films has just announced their very first 4K Ultra HD title and it’s an upgrade of their debut Imprint Collection Blu-ray release... Byron Haskin’s The War of the Worlds (1953). The street date is 12/15. The 2-disc set will feature both a 4K UHD and the previous Blu-ray edition in Steelbook packaging, housed in a 3D lenticular hardcase with a 44-page collector’s booklet. Adaptation & Rain Man in 4K, Spider-Man: No Way Home – Extended, a Silent Night, Deadly Night Collection & more
We have four new disc reviews for you to enjoy today, along with some release news...
First, I’ve taken a look at the long-awaited physical 4K Ultra HD release of Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick from Paramount. You’ll be glad to know that the disc’s A/V quality is demo worthy, though the extras are somewhat wanting and you have to buy the Blu-ray version separately.
Stephen has offered up a review of Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist, also in 4K Ultra HD from Warner Bros. And he’s got a review of Rob Zombie’s The Munsters on regular Blu-ray as well from Universal.
Finally, Tim has reviewed a film that was thought to be lost but has now been re-discovered and restored for Blu-ray release: George A. Romero’s The Amusement Park (1975) from Shudder and RLJ Entertainment.
More reviews are definitely on the way, so be sure to watch for them.
And we’ve also posted a major update of our Release Dates & Artwork section here at The Bits (listed as Cover Art in the navigation bar above), featuring a ton of new Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover images and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, anytime you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking through to them from one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we really appreciate it! (Thanks to our own Russell Hammond for his work on that section.) [Read on here...]

A release news update with Kino, Arrow, Scream, Shout! Factory, the Warner Archive & more
All right, let’s start the week with some more release news…
Kino Lorber has just announced the 3/20 Blu-ray and DVD release of No Orchids for Miss Blandish (1948) as part of its Studio Classics line. Kino is also releasing a double feature Blu-ray of Mike Binder films on 2/27, including Crossing the Bridge and Indian Summer. The company will also release James Cruze’s Covered Wagon (1923) on Blu-ray on 2/20. This is widely considered to be the first Western epic. And on 3/13, look for them to release Revenge of the Cheerleaders (1976) on DVD only for Code Red.
MVD has set The Return of the Swamp Thing for release on Blu-ray on 5/8. The set will include both Blu-ray and DVD in one package. [Read on here…]
Introducing our 4K Ultra HD Release List, plus a CE3K 4K unboxing video & MVD launches its Rewind Collection!
Welcome to a new week! We’ve got a couple things for you today, but first, an important announcement...
In response to reader demand, we’ve launched a new section here at The Bits. It’s our 4K Ultra HD Release List! You can read the section introduction here, and you can find the actual list here. (In the navigation bar at the top of the website, you’ll find it listed under Columns >> Bill Hunt >> The 4K Ultra HD Release List.) You can see all of the U.S. and U.K. titles currently available and also yet to be released – both announced and rumored to be in the works based on our industry sources. (Note that an International list will be added soon for Germany, Italy, France, Japan, etc.) You can also order or pre-order each title via Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk if links are available. We’ve also tried to include codes to indicate which releases are full native 4K, which have object-based audio options, and which have Dolby Vision. And if a title is a standout or reference quality, we’ve tried to indicate that as well. We’re going through and checking all of those codes to make sure they’re accurate (if you spot errors please let us know), and of course we’ll be regularly updating the list going forward.
