Note that there will also be a Mad Max 5-Film 4K UHD Collector’s Edition box set coming later this year (street date TBA) that will add a Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – Black & Chrome Edition, complete with an introduction by Miller. Here’s what that will look like (click on the image to pre-order it from Amazon.com — the listing says 8/13, but this is likely to be delayed)...
In the meantime, Furiosa in 4K will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. The Blu-ray SKU will also have Dolby Atmos. The Blu-ray will include a pair of behind-the-scenes featurettes (Highway to Valhalla: In Pursuit of Furiosa and Stowaway to Nowhere). To this, the 4K disc will add 3 more featurettes (Metal Beasts & Holy Motors, Darkest Angel: Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa, and Motorbike Messiah: Chris Hemsworth as Dementus). You can see the cover artwork for the 4K edition above left and all of the SKUs below.
Here’s a nice surprise: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just set Joe Layton’s Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip (1982) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 9/10. Scanned in 4K from the original camera negative, the presentation will include Dolby Vision HDR, English mono audio in DTS-HD MA format, and the film’s trailer.
Also today, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has revealed that their 4K Ultra HD release of Alexander Mackendrick’s The Ladykillers (1955) due on 8/27 will feature the new StudioCanal restoration with Dolby Vision HDR, as well as new HD restorations of both the original 1.37 release as well as the matted 1.66 version.
Umbrella Entertainment has revealed that they’re working on a Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release of Tinto Brass’ newly-restored Caligula (1979). Look for it to include multiple cuts of the film, including the new Caligula: The Ultimate Cut (2024), along with a package of extras similar to those found the company’s Super Mario Bros: Trust The Fungus Edition. Umbrella Entertainment is obviously an Australian distributor. Drafthouse Films has the US rights, so expect them to announce their own 4K UHD and Blu-ray release in the coming weeks as well (our industry sources say the tentative street date for this will be 9/17).
And Universal will release Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin’s Abagail (2024) on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/9.
For you music fans, MVD Entertainment and Cleopatra Entertainment have just announced the 7/19 Blu-ray release of Todd Rundgren: Liars Live (2005). This 160-minute concert includes 19 tracks, plus bonus materials.
And while we’re talking music, Mercury Studios has revealed that there’s audio issue on their recent Queen Rock Montreal + Live Aid 4K Ultra HD release, which streeted on 5/10. Apparently, there are some audio dropouts during a drum solo. If you’ve purchased this title, you can request a replacement disc by contacting: This email address is being protected from spambots. We’ll leave you today with a look at the cover artwork for the Furiosa SKUs, along with Richard Prior: Live on the Sunset Strip and KLSC’s The Ladykillers and Prime Cut 4Ks. Amazon links for the first three are now available and the rest will be added as soon as they go live...
