All right, we’ve had a big week here at The Bits. As you can probably tell, I’ve spent most of the week checking in with studio and industry sources, which led to yesterday’s scoop on Tombstone coming to 4K Ultra HD next month. And trust me when I tell you that there’s a lot more great 4K catalog news to come in the months ahead. Given that we’ve been a part of—and reporting on—the home entertainment industry for more than twenty-eight years, I can confidently promise you that we have the best sources in this industry period. So when it comes to confirmed and reliable breaking news, you’re likely to hear about it first here at The Digital Bits.

Given that reality, I would highly recommend that you follow us on social media, which is where we tend to post breaking news first. As the editor-in-chief of The Bits, you’ll find me here on X, Facebook, and Bluesky. You’ll find The Digital Bits on X, Facebook, and Bluesky as well. And you can also find Tim (X, Facebook, and Bluesky) and Stephen (X, Facebook, and Bluesky) on all three social platforms too.

What’s more, if you’re not already a subscriber of our Digital Bits Patreon, please consider doing so! There are very affordable options for subscribing, it’s a great way to support our work here at the site, and we’re offering our Patreon supporters additional news posts, video blogs, the option to ask us questions regularly, and sneak peeks at upcoming titles. Whether you’ve been a Bits reader since the very beginning of the website back in 1997, or you’ve just come to learn of us with 4K Ultra HD, we work our asses off here every day to make your experience of physical media better, to encourage the studios to release great catalog titles, and help support fans of physical media and the industry at large. Regular reader or not, if you’re an avid disc fan you have definitely benefited from our efforts over the years. So if you value that, supporting us on Patreon is a great way to help make sure that we can keep doing this work on behalf of you and everyone who loves movies, TV shows, and music on disc. Now then, while I’ve been checking in with our sources this week, Tim, Stephen, Stuart, Dennis, and the rest of The Bits’ review team have been knocking out all kind of great new disc reviews, including...

Tim’s look at the Wallace & Gromit: The Complete Cracking Collection in 4K Ultra HD from Aardman via Shout! Studios, which includes the Nick Park stop-motion animated films A Grand Day Out (1989), The Wrong Trousers (1993), A Close Shave (1995), The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005), and A Matter of Loaf and Death (2008).

Stephen’s take on Michael Mann’s Thief (1981) and Henri-Georges Clouzot’s The Wages of Fear (1953) in 4K Ultra HD from Criterion, as well as Richard Brooks’ Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977) in 4K UHD from Paramount via Vinegar Syndrome.

Dennis’ thoughts on David Wellington’s The Carpenter (1988) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome, and Stanley Donen’s Arabesque (1966) and Willard Hyuck’s Best Defense (1984) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And finally, Stuart’s look at Clint Eastwood’s Juror #2 (2024) on Blu-ray from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment and Fernando Di Leo’s The Boss (1973) on Blu-ray from Raro Video via Kino Lorber.

More reviews are on the way here at the site for next week, including my own thoughts on Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis (2024) in 4K Ultra HD. So be sure to watch for them.

In announcement news today, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has confirmed that John Frankenheimer’s Prophecy (1979) will street in 4K UHD on 5/20. Following on 5/27 are Stephen Surjik’s Wayne’s World 2 (1993) and Bobby and Peter Farrelly’s Kingpin (1996) both in 4K, along with Blu-ray titles that include Ferdinand Fairfax’s Nate & Hayes (1983), Mike Hodges’ I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead (2003), and the Audie Murphy Collection IV (1950-1954) box set which includes Kurt Neumann’s The Kid from Texas (1950), Budd Boetticher’s The Cimarron Kid (1952), and Nathan Juran’s Drums Across the River (1954).

Springsteen’s Bullet for a Badman (1964). And the company has also revealed that Mimi Leder’s The Peacemaker (1997) is “coming soon” to 4K Ultra HD.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has already set the animated The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie (2025) for release on Blu-ray on 5/27. The company has also begun taking pre-orders for the 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release of Richard Donner’s Lethal Weapon (1987). There’s no street date yet listed, but our sources expect it to arrive on or around 5/20. We believe that the official studio announcement is imminent, so stay tuned. In the meantime, here’s what it looks like (click here or on the image below for the Amazon pre-order link)...
