Paramount sets Pretty in Pink for Ultra HD, plus Armageddon (1998) in 4K & Warner’s 2025 UHD plans include Lethal Weapon & the Connery Bond films!
We’ve got more new disc reviews today to start the short Thanksgiving week out right here at The Bits. Among them are...
Stephen’s take on Fred Zinnemann’s A Man for All Seasons (1966) in 4K Ultra HD from Sony’s new Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 5 box set.
Tim’s review of Don Siegel’s Two Mules for Sister Sara (1970) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, as well as his on-going film-by-film review of Arrow’s excellent Shawscope: Volume Two Blu-ray boxed set—today featuring his thoughts on Lau Kar-leung’s The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978).
And my review of Dean Parisot’s Galaxy Quest (1999) in 4K Ultra HD Steelbook from our friends at Paramount Home Entertainment.
We’ve all got a lot more reviews in the works here at the site as well, so be sure to check back. In fact, in the next 24 hours or so, I’ll have my reviews of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai (1954) in 4K from the BFI (as compared to the recent Criterion 4K release, which I reviewed here last week), as well as my thoughts on Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus (2024) in 4K UHD from 20th Century Studios.
Also today, I wanted to let you that I just dropped my second My Two Cents: A Video Blog episode exclusively for our supporters on The Digital Bits’ Patreon page. It runs about 26 minutes and includes comments on new and recent 4K titles, a sneak peek of 2025 4K catalog titles, and more. [Read on here...]

Arrow Video and Imprint Films announce their November catalog Blu-ray & 4K slates, plus a Uni Monsters V2 update
I’m working on some major new 4K Ultra HD reviews here at The Bits this afternoon, the first of which may get posted tonight. So I only have time for another very quick news update today. BUT... there’s a bit of breaking catalog release news that’s well worth mentioning here.
First, our friends at Arrow Video have just revealed their November Blu-ray and 4K slate, which includes a few gems...
It starts with Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street on 11/17 in both Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD (a UK only title, but it’s already been released here in the States on both formats by Paramount). Also coming that day are Quentin Dupieux’s Incredible But True (2022) and Robert Wise’s Audrey Rose (1977), each on Blu-ray only. The former is a UK only title, while the latter will be released in the US, UK, and Canada.
Next up is their previously-announced Shawscope: Volume Two – Limited Edition Blu-ray box set on 11/21, which will also debut in the US, UK, and Canada. The 10-disc set will include The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, Return to the 36th Chamber, Disciples of the 36th Chamber, Mad Monkey Kung Fu, Five Superfighters, Invincible Shaolin, The Kid with the Golden Arm, Magnificent Ruffians, Ten Tigers of Kwangtung, My Young Auntie, Mercenaries from Hong Kong, The Boxer’s Omen, Martial Arts of Shaolin, and The Bare-footed Kid. Two of the set’s discs will also be CDs with music from the films. There’s a 60-page book of essays and liner notes on each film as well. [Read on here...]

Paramount sets TOP GUN: MAVERICK for disc on 11/1 & Digital next week on 8/23, plus For All Mankind: S1 on UK Blu-ray, Shawscope: Volume 2 & more!
All right, we have big release news to report today, but first we’ve got three more new disc reviews for you all to enjoy…
Stephen has given an in-depth look at Dario Argento’s Tenebrae in 4K Ultra HD, as newly released in a terrific and loaded special edition package from our friends at Synapse Films. If you’re a fan of Argento, the gaillo genre, or this film in particular, this is a great package that you’re not going to want to miss.
Stephen has also taken a look at an under-appreciated Soviet classic by director Alexandr Ptushko, a filmmaker considered by many to be the Russian George Pal… Sampo (1959) new on Blu-ray from Deaf Crocodile and Vinegar Syndrome. This is an interesting piece of cinema that also deserves a look.
Last but not least, Dennis has offered his thoughts on Graham Mason’s Inspector Ike (2020), which presents itself as a “lost 70s telefilm” and detective story spoof, a-la The Naked Gun. That’s available on Blu-ray from Factory 25 via Vinegar Syndrome, so be sure to check it out.
Now then, the biggest box office hit of the year… and what is likely to be the biggest home media title of the year as well… has finally been made official: Paramount Home Entertainment will release Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 11/1 (a date that our sources have been suggesting for a few weeks now). But here’s the real surprise: The Digital release will drop next Tuesday on 8/23! [Read on here...]
