We have just a quick news update for you here today, as I’m personally working on more new 4K reviews...
But Stephen has just turned in his thoughts on Phillipe Labro’s The Hunter Will Get You (1976) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
And Tim has delivered not just one but two new reviews of Bernard McEveety’s The Brotherhood of Satan (1971) on Blu-ray, including this one from Imprint/Via Vision Entertainment and this one from Arrow Video.
Also here at The Bits today, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List, to include new 4K titles now available for pre-order, as well as our Release Dates & Artwork section, which has LOTS of new cover artwork for forthcoming Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD titles along with pre-order links. BREAKING: Disney sets Robert Zemeckis’ Who Framed Roger Rabbit for 4K Ultra HD release on 12/7!
We’re very pleased this morning to bring you some great breaking release news...
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has just officially set director Robert Zemeckis’ ground-breaking animation/live action comedy Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 12/7! You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.
We first reported that this title was coming over a year ago here at The Digital Bits, with studio sources originally providing us with a street date of 10/12. More recently those same sources had suggested to us that the title could slip into early 2022. (The other 4K title we were told to expect along with it—Michael Mann’s Heat (1995)—is likely to be so delayed.) So it’s great to see that work on the Roger Rabbit 4K release has finally been completed in time for a release this year. [Read on here...]

Criterion details its November slate with THREE 4K titles, plus Cruella, Addams Family, and a great chat with George Feltenstein (ex-Warner Archive)!
All right, the big news today is that Criterion has just officially announced their November slate of Blu-ray—and yes, 4K Ultra HD—titles!
They begin with an upgrade of Federico Fellini’s La strada (Spine #219 – Blu-ray) on 11/2, followed by an upgrade of David Lynch’s Mulholland Dr. (Spine #799 – Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD Combo) and Once Upon a Time in China: The Complete Films (Spine #1103 – Blu-ray – includes Once Upon a Time in China I-V) on 11/16, and Albert and Allen Hughes’ Menace II Society (Spine #1105 – Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Combo) and Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane (Spine #1104 – Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Combo) on 11/23. Let’s talk 4Ks...
Mulholland Dr. will include a new 4K digital restoration, supervised by director David Lynch and director of photography Peter Deming, with a 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. The 4K disc will include Dolby Vision HDR.
Menace II Society will include a new 4K digital restoration of the directors’ cut of the film, supervised by cinematographer Lisa Rinzler and codirector Albert Hughes, with 7.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. The 4K disc will include Dolby Vision HDR.
Citizen Kane will include a new 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack. Again, the 4K disc will include Dolby Vision HDR. [Read on here...]

American Gods: S3, Spiral & new Blu-ray/4K news including Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, Roger Rabbit, The Thing, Unbreakable & more
All right, we’re starting this afternoon with a few more new disc reviews for you to enjoy...
Stephen has posted his thoughts on Curtis Bernhardt’s 1929 silent drama The Woman One Longs For, featuring only the second starring role for actress Marlene Dietrich. That’s now available on Blu-ray from Kino Classics.
Also, Dennis has offered a look at John Farrow’s 1949 film noir Alias Nick Beal, available on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. Do give both of them a look.
In Blu-ray release news today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC have just set Batwoman: The Complete Second Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/21 featuring all 18 episodes along with deleted scenes, a gag reel, and 2 featurettes (Villains Analyzed and Never Alone: Heroes and Allies).
WBHE has also set the animated Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog for release on DVD and Digital on 9/14. [Read on here...]

Disney+ launches with a number of surprises including nearly all of the Star Wars films in 4K
Well, Disney+ is here at last and it offers some surprises!
The service went live last at about 9PM Pacific (Midnight Eastern) and it’s running very smooth right out of the gate.
But the surprise is how much 4K/HDR content is available on the service.
It starts with nearly all of the Star Wars films. You read that right: All of them are here in 4K with HDR except Solo and The Last Jedi (because Netflix has the rights to those for a few more months).
But you also get most (but not all) of the Marvel films, almost all of the Pixar animated films, a TON of Disney live action films and even some surprises of classic animation. [Read on here...]
