Meanwhile, Red Shirt Pictures and Synapse Films have revealed on Facebook (click here) that they’ve won the rights to release a number of deep cut catalog titles on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD in the next 12-24 months, including Tommy Lee Wallace’s Fright Night: Part II (1988), Bruce Pittman’s Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II (1987), Peter R. Simpson and Ron Oliver’s Prom Night III: The Last Kiss (1989), Clay Borris’ Prom Night IV: Deliver Us from Evil (1991), Jim Wynorski’s 976-Evil II: The Astral Factor (1992), and Myrl A. Schreibman’s Angel of Heat (1983). All of those are titles that have had very complicated rights issues in the past, that now appear to have been sorted out. Production has not yet begun on them, and that’s going to require these boutiques being able to locate and access original film elements, but it’s good news at least that they’ve been able to get to this point.
Deaf Crocodile Films will release Jean-François Laguionie’s Gwen and the Book of Sand (1985) on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray on 6/10.
And Lionsgate Films has set Jean-Francois Richet’s Plane (2023) for 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release on 4/29. The film stars Gerard Butler and Mike Colter. The film is already available on Blu-ray, DVD, and regular 4K.
Speaking of Lionsgate, we’ve confirmed that the studio currently has no plans to release Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis (2024), on physical media here in the States. The title will be Digital only. And this decision was apparently made at the direction of Coppola himself. What this means, is that if you want to own the film on physical media, the European 4K and Blu-ray editions are the only means of doing this. There are currently both UK and Italian SKUs available, though note that the actual Blu-ray Discs are locked to Region B. 4K fans have one of three choices: A UK edition (click here and here), an Italian Amaray edition, and an Italian Steelbook. Other online retailers may also have it in stock (including Diabolik and others).
Finally today, for those of you wondering: Second Sight in the UK has finally begun dispatching the replacement Blu-ray discs for their Blair Witch Project box set. If you look in the disc ring, the original disc is marked A0103502973-B911 1000. The replacement disc is A103511184-B911 4000. They are otherwise identical looking. Just FYI. Contact the company directly to request your replacement.
That’s all for this week. Stay tuned!
