Black Lightning, new Warner Archive/Kino Studio Classics titles, plus RIP Milos Forman & R Lee Ermey
All right, we’re kicking off the new week with some release news today before we get busy with Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD review work...
First up, Lionsgate has set Spinning Man for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/12, starring Guy Pierce, Pierce Brosnan, and Minnie Driver. They also have the comedy Valentina’s Wedding (La Boda De Valentina) coming on DVD only on 5/8.
Universal has set The Strangers: Prey at Night – Unrated for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/12, with the Digital release expected on 5/22. Universal is also releasing The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy, and The Purge: Election Year as 4K Ultra HD single editions on 6/12. These were previously only available in The Purge: 3-Movie Collection on the format. We’ve updated the 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set Black Lightning: The Complete First Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/26. Also coming from the studio on DVD and Digital only on 6/12 is Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz: Emerald City – Season One, Volume Two. [Read on here...]
Arrow, Shameless, Blackbeard, Scream Factory sale & L.A. lights the Bat Signal for Adam West

In announcement news today, WB Home Entertainment has just set Shameless: The Complete Seventh Season for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/26. The studio has also confirmed the 9/19 Blu-ray and DVD release of Arrow: The Complete Fifth Season.
Meanwhile, BBC Home Entertainment has set Ripper Street: Season Five for Blu-ray and DVD release on 8/29.
Universal will release JD Dillard’s Slight on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/1. Also coming that day from the studio on both formats is Joseph Ruben’s The Ottoman Lieutenant. [Read on here…]

First up today, Tim’s given Art Linson’s Where the Buffalo Roam a fresh look on Blu-ray via the new Shout Select Collector’s Edition release. The film stars Bill Murray and Peter Boyle and is worth a look.

Paramount finally makes the Trek Into Darkness BD right with Star Trek: The Compendium!

The event, or tentpole, film was taken to new heights during the summer of 1989, and the industry hasn’t been the same since. Sure, there were hits — and megahits — before, but everything this did was new, unorthodox or amplified: mass-saturation marketing, title-less posters, narration-less trailers, loads of tie-in merchandise, dual soundtrack release, one-day-early sneak-preview screenings, anti-piracy electronic-coded release prints, shattered box-office records, home-video release while still in theaters, franchise. The Harder They Come, Terms of Endearment, Mama's Family & Trek Into Darkness update
Okay, just a quick one today to round out the week...
First up, check this out... Syndctd Entertainment and International Films Management are releasing Perry Henzell’s cult classic The Harder They Come back into theaters for a limited time in the U.S. and U.K. starting on 9/5. The film stars Jimmy Cliff. Then later this year, Xenon Pictures is releasing the film on Blu-ray Disc. All this is in honor of the film’s 40th Anniversary. More information is available here. Remember: “The hero can’t dead till the last reel!”
Warner Home Video is releasing the Paramount catalog title Terms of Endearment on Blu-ray Disc for the first time on 12/3 (SRP $19.98). […]
