Here’s a nice surprise: Our friends at Vinegar Syndrome have just unveiled a pair of new 4K Ultra HD releases that are due to ship in early December (tentative street date 12/3), including Richard Brooks’ Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977) and Frank Marshall’s Congo (1995). Each will feature Dolby Vision HDR, DTS-HD Master Audio, and both new and legacy extras.
Finally this afternoon, Shout! Studios has begun to announced their January release slate, and it’s shaping up very nicely indeed! So far, you can expect Alister Grierson’s Sanctum (2011) in 4K UHD + Blu-ray on 1/7, the 11-disc Shaw Brothers Classics: Volume 5 Blu-ray box set—which includes Li Kao’s The Silent Swordsman (1967), Feng Yueh’s Rape of the Sword (1967), Lei Pan’s The Fastest Sword (1968), Ching Doe’s Twin Blades of Doom (1969), Hsu Tseng-Hung’s Twelve Deadly Coins (1969), Meng-Hua Ho’s Vengeance Is a Golden Blade (1969), Feng Yueh’s A Taste of Cold Steel (1970), Chun Yen’s The Iron Buddha (1970) and The Jade Faced Assassin (1971), Joseph Kuo’s Mission Impossible (1970), and Chang-hwa Jeong’s Six Assassins (1971)—on 1/14, and Andre Ovredal’s The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023) and John Carpenter’s Vampires (1998) in 4K UHD + Blu-ray on 1/21. All three of the 4K titles will include Dolby Vision HDR. The Last Voyage of the Demeter will also include Dolby Atmos audio.
Also, it looks like Shout! will release Steven Kostanski’s Frankie Freako (2024) on Blu-ray tomorrow, on 11/5.
Lionsgate will release Ariel Vromen’s 1992 (2022) on Blu-ray + DVD Combo on 11/5.
Finally today, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has just officially set Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui’s Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story (2024) documentary for Digital release tomorrow on 11/5. There’s no word yet on any kind of physical Blu-ray or DVD release.
