Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has announced Meg 2: The Trench for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 10/24, with the Digital release available today (8/25). Look for HDR10 high dynamic range, with Dolby Atmos audio on the 4K. In terms of extras, the discs will include 2 featurettes (The Making of Meg 2: The Trench and Up From the Depths: Even More Beasts). You can see the cover art below.
Not to be outdone, Lionsgate has set Jean-Luc Godard’s French New Wave classic Contempt (aka Le Mépris, 1963) for release on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray on 9/26, with a Digital version available on 9/12. The 4K will include Dolby Vision HDR, with both French and English 2.0 Mono in DTS-HD MA format. The film will include An Introduction by Colin MacCabe.
Shout! Studios has set Eric Appel’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022) for release on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 12/12, with a Digital version available for purchase on 11/10. A/V specs and special features will be announced at a later date.
And Blue Underground has announced that Jess Franco’s The Girl from Rio (1969) will be released on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray on 9/26. Look for the 4K to include Dolby Vision HDR. Extras will include an all-new audio commentary with film historians Nathaniel Thompson and Troy Howarth, the Rolling in Rio interview with Franco, producer Harry Alan Towers, and star Shirley Eaton, all-new additional scenes from the German version, a Trim Reel, a Poster & Still Gallery, and the RiffTrax Edition.
For those of you eagerly awaiting news of Steven Spielberg’s Duel (1971) in 4K Ultra HD, the film has just been made available on 4K Digital. We expect the physical 4K UHD edition to be available for pre-order on Amazon soon with a street date of 11/7.
Also today, Arrow Video has just announced their November slate of Blu-ray and 4K releases, which is set to include Roger Vadim’s Barbarella (1968) on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray in the US and Canada, SS Wilson’s Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996) on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray in the UK, US, and Canada, and an absolutely loaded 11-film/6-disc Inside the Mind of Coffin Joe: Limited Edition Blu-ray box set in the US, UK, and Canada, all of them on 11/28! The latter includes At Midnight I’ll Take Your Soul (1964), This Night I’ll Possess Your Corpse (1967), The Strange World of Coffin Joe (1968), Awakening of the Beast (1970), The End of Man (1971), When the Gods Fall Asleep (1972), The Strange Hostel of Naked Pleasures (1976), Hellish Flesh (1977), Hallucinations of a Deranged Mind (1978), and Embodiment of Evil (2008). Note that Barbarella and Tremors 2: Aftershocks will be available in different cover art variations depending on your region.
And for those of you who missed Koch/Plaion’s fantastic German 4K Ultra HD ultimate box set of David Lynch’s Dune (1984), the company is re-releasing it in standard packaging, featuring the restored film on UHD and Blu-ray, plus 4 additional BDs (the Extended TV Version, the Spicediver Cut, and 2 discs of extras including the extended The Sleeper Must Awaken documentary), and a soundtrack CD. That’s all of the disc-based content (7 discs) minus the swag. Street date is 10/26. Note that the Blu-rays in this package will be Region B locked, so you must have an all-region capable player to review them. And in regular Blu-ray news, our friends at Via Vision have announced their November Imprint Films titles, which features the Essential Film Noir: Collection 5—including Island of Doomed Men (1940), The Red Menace (1949), The Burglar (1957), and 13 West Street (1962)—the Tales of Adventure: Collection 2—which includes Angel on the Amazon (1948), Daughter of the Jungle (1949), Fair Wind to Java (1953), Elephant Walk (1954), and Safari (1956)—plus Assignment K (1968), Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round (1966), Diamond Head (1962), and The Man in Half Moon Street (1945). Many of these films are new to Blu-ray. Expected street date is 11/28.
Also, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has set Joseph Sargent’s White Lightning (1973) for Blu-ray release on 11/21.
Kino Lorber proper will release Fran Rubel Kuzui’s cult musical comedy Tokyo Pop (1988) on Blu-ray on 12/5.
Amazon is now taking pre-orders on CBS and Paramount’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – Season Two on Blu-ray, Blu-ray Steelbook, and DVD. We believe there will also be a 4K Ultra HD release (and possibly a 4K Steelbook too). But we don’t yet have a street date.

Amazon is also taking pre-orders on the eventual Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of Neill Blomkamp’s Gran Turismo (2023) from Sony, which is now in theaters. Again, street date is TBA. You can see the Blu-ray and 4K cover art below.
