Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing Carol Reed’s musical Oliver! (1968) on stand-alone 4K Ultra HD on 5/27, with HDR10 and Dolby Atmos audio. It was previously available only in the Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 2. You can read our review of that disc here on The Bits.
Fabulous Films is releasing Dan O’Bannon’s Dark Star (1974) on 4K Ultra HD in the UK on 6/23/25. The 2-disc set will include both the original 73-minute Director’s Cut as well as the 83-minute Expanded Theatrical Release. The set will also include a Region-B Blu-ray. Extras will include new interview featurettes with Alan Dean Foster and Brian Narelle, a new Commander Powell’s Ship Log, and the film’s restored trailer, as well as archival content including audio commentary by super fan Andrew Gilchris, a written introduction by O’Bannon, trivia and hidden Easter eggs. Here’s what it will look like. You can pre-order it here on the Fabulous Films website (or by clicking on the image)...
Meanwhile, Curzon in the UK is releasing Lars von Trier’s Dogville (2003) on Region B Blu-ray on 6/9/25. Extras will include Confessions from Dogville, Lars von Trier meets the Scandinavian Press, Lars von Trier & Nicole Kidman first Press Conference in Trollhättan, Cannes Film Festival Press Conference, an Interview with Nicole Kidman, The Visual Effects of Dogville, and the film’s theatrical trailer. This is basically a break-out disc from Curzon’s excellent Lars von Trier: A Curzon Collection Blu-ray box set that was released “across the pond” last October.
By the way, Curzon has also set Gints Zilbalodis’s animated Flow (2024) for 4K Ultra HD release in the UK on 6/30. Criterion will be releasing the title here in the States, but the street date is TBA.
Also today, for those of you who might be interested, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment is bringing their Looney Tunes Platinum Collections: Volume 1 and 2 back into print on Blu-ray starting in June. You can learn more from our old friend George Feltenstein of the Warner Archive Collection via Tim Millard’s The Extras podcast here.
And finally, Kino Lorber Studio Classics is releasing Tibor Takács’ I, Madman (1989) on Blu-ray on 6/17 as part of their Kino Cult line.
Also, in other news today, our friends over at The Screening Room AV have just posted the full results of their 2025 Projector Shootout. And it seems that JVC has dominated once again, but it also appears that the other contenders are closing the gap quickly. You can read all the details here, and if you’re into home theater projection I highly recommend it.
We’ll leave you with a look at the cover art a few more forthcoming Blu-ray and 4K titles, all of which are now available for pre-order on Amazon by clicking on the images...
Have a great weekend! Stay tuned...
