Avengers: Infinity War official, plus Avengers, Age of Ultron, Superman: The Movie, Deadpool 2, Predator & more
All right, today is kind of a big day on the 4K Ultra HD announcement front, so let’s get right to it...
First up, Disney and Marvel have just officially confirmed that Avengers: Infinity War will street on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 8/14 – just as we predicted – with the Digital release planned for 7/31. You’ll get over two hours worth of extras, including featurettes, a gag reel, deleted scenes, and audio commentary with the filmmakers. The Digital edition will include an exclusive 30-minute roundtable with MCU directors Joe and Anthony Russo, James Gunn, Ryan Coogler, Peyton Reed, Jon Favreau, Joss Whedon, and Taika Waititi. You can see the official cover artwork at left and also below.
Also, you know how we’ve been telling you since April that Disney and Marvel would be releasing The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron on 4K Ultra HD concurrently with Infinity War on 8/14? Sure enough... both Zavvi and Best Buy have now begun taking pre-orders for them. Consider them confirmed and you can see the official cover artwork below. [Editor’s Note: Disney has now officially confirmed the 8/14 4K Ultra HD release of The Avengers and The Avengers: Age of Ultron with The Avengers: Infinity War. Audio is confirmed to be Dolby Atmos on all three. Waiting to hear back on HDR.] [Read on here...]

Predator Trilogy 4K, plus The First Purge, Get Shorty, a 4K update, new Uni catalog & more
All right, we’ve got a couple of announcements today...
First up, Kino Lorber has added William Friedkin’s Good Times (1967) to its upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release slate. Look for the title to join their Studio Classics line on 9/25. They also have The Trip to Bountiful (1985) coming to Blu-ray and DVD the same day.
Shout! Factory has just revealed that Get Shorty (1995) is coming to Blu-ray as a Shout Select Collector’s Edition in October. Extras are TBA.
Retail sources are reporting that Universal’s The Big Lebowski 4K Ultra HD has shifted to October from July, with Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood now set for September. We’ll see. In any case, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly. [Read on here...]

Let’s Try This Again… Supergirl, Dragnet, Tucker, Man in the Iron Mask, First Reformed & more
All right, yesterday’s My Two Cents post apparently got corrupted somehow after we posted it. So we’re going to cover much of the same ground today, plus a lot more.
We start things off (again) today with another new Blu-ray review from Tim Salmons. He’s taken a look at the new 3-disc The Last House on the Left: Limited Edition Blu-ray set from director Wes Craven and our friends at Arrow Video. Sounds like it’s pretty damn solid, so do give it a look.
In announcement news, Shout! Factory has unveiled some great new Blu-ray titles, including a Dragnet: Collector’s Edition (street date 10/30) and The Man in the Iron Mask: 20th Anniversary Edition (due 10/9), both as Shout Select releases. The extras are TBA.
Meanwhile, their Scream Factory label chimes in with a House on Haunted Hill: Collector’s Edition (the 1999 film obviously) which is due to street on 10/9. Extras are TBA, but material from the previous DVD release will carry over. Look also for The Wasp Woman (10/30), a Trick ’r Treat: Collector’s Edition (10/9), The Bride (1985) and an Exorcist II: The Heretic – Collector’s Edition (both on 9/25). [Read on here...]

Criterion September, Predator & more 4K news, Uni Monsters, Warner TV, a new So-Cal Jaws exhibit & more
All right, we’ve got a few interesting things for you today...
First up, be sure you check out the reviews we’ve posted over the last couple days. To recap, my take on Sony’s Fury and Universal’s Pacific Rim: Uprising in 4K, plus Tim’s look at A Pistol for Ringo/The Return of Ringo from Arrow and Zombie 4: After Death from Severin. Enjoy!
Also here today, we’ve updated the Release Dates & Artwork section with all kinds of new Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com links. Shopping through our links helps us keep going here at The Bits, so please do (and we appreciate it)!
And we have a couple of 4K Ultra HD title updates for you. First, it looks like 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is releasing the original Predator in 4K on 8/7. Zavvi currently has it available for pre-order in the UK on 8/6, and Amazon US has a new Predator Trilogy Blu-ray box set listed for 8/7, so it’s likely that the 4K disc will be available then as well. Zavvi is also listing a Predator 3-Movie Collection 4K set that would include Predator, Predator 2, and Predators for release that same day. We’ll have to wait and see if Fox announces this officially. [Read on here...]

Jack Reacher, Christine & Van Wilder in 4K, plus Young Sheldon, the final Universal Monster BD sets & much more
All right, we’ve got a LOT of ground to cover here on The Bits today. There’s lots of news to catch up on.
First though, I posted my reviews of Warner’s Tomb Raider (2018) and Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time in 4K Ultra HD here on The Bits on Friday.
Also, Tim has posted a review of Scream Factory’s new Ninja III: The Domination – Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray.
And in case you missed it when we posted it on Thursday, Michael Coate has turned in a new retrospective History, Legacy & Showmanship column looking back at the 007 film Octopussy in honor of its 35th anniversary.
So do give all of those a look. [Read on here...]
Game of Thrones 4K review (and giveaway!), plus Isle of Dogs, Valley Girl, a new Dailies column & more
All right, I posted my in-depth review of HBO’s new Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season in 4K Ultra HD last night here at The Bits. I’m really surprised at how good it looks. Way better than I expected given the production resolution. It’s a genuine upgrade over the previous Blu-ray release in terms of A/V quality, so I recommend that fans give it a look.
We’ve got more 4K reviews coming soon and we’re also going to be taking a look at some interesting recent Blu-ray 3D titles thanks to our friends at the 3-D Film Archive. So be sure to watch for those.
One note however: We will probably not be reviewing Disney and Pixar’s The Incredibles in 4K Ultra HD. I picked up a copy of the disc this morning, and have found it to offer a modest (but definite) image and sound improvement over the previous Blu-ray release – probably enough for fans to want to make the upgrade. Note that it has Dolby Vision, HDR10, and Dolby Atmos audio. But Disney chose not to send this title for out review and we have a good number of titles to cover here that the studios (Disney included) have sent out for our consideration. With limited time at our disposal, we feel that we should focus our attenion on those. Just FYI. But if you’re a fan of the film, you might want to check the 4K edition out and Best Buy does have mighty nice exclusive Steelbook packaging. So there you go. [Read on here...]

Lionsgate re-announces Terminator 2 in 4K w/Endo Arm, plus news from Scream, KL Studio Classics & more
All right, I’m working on more reviews today and a couple of other behind-the-post items here at The Bits, so today’s post will be a quick one. But...
As promised, I posted my reviews of Paramount’s Forrest Gump and Terminator Genisys in 4K Ultra HD on Friday night, so those are available this morning in case you missed them.
Up on deck for review next in 4K are A Wrinkle in Time, Fury, Escape Plan, and Game of Thrones: Season One (possibly not in that order), so be sure to watch for them.
Also, Tim will have a new Dailies column for you here at the site tomorrow.
The big news today is that Lionsgate has just announced that their Terminator 2: Judgment Day 4K Ultra HD is going to be re-released on 7/17 in both regular and long-delayed Endo Arm packaging. [Read on here...]
A Quiet Place, Rampage, Bad Boys 1 & 2, plus our review of Jurassic Park 4K & more 4K/BD reviews
All right, we’ve been busy with reviews here at The Bits this week and the work continues through the weekend.
Case in point: I’ve just completed my in-depth review of Universal’s Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Collection in 4K Ultra HD, which includes Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III, and Jurassic World in both Blu-ray and 4K. You should read the review, obviously, but the cliff’s notes version is that the films all sound fantastic with DTS:X sound, but the transfers are a mixed bag. Jurassic Park looks better than ever (but don’t expect a miracle), The Lost World and Jurassic World look fantastic, and Jurassic Park III is barely an upgrade over the previous Blu-ray. The box is recommended for diehard fans of the franchise, certainly, and others if you can get a good sale price.
Not finished though, I’ve also posted my review of Universal’s Darkest Hour in 4K Ultra HD, which is not only a terrific film it’s a gorgeous 4K presentation of some of the best cinematography in recent years. I highly recommend this one.
By the end of the day (fingers crossed) I’ll also have posted my reviews of Paramount’s Forrest Gump and Terminator Genisys in 4K Ultra HD. [Read on here...]

Return of the Jedi: 35th Anniversary retrospective, Patriot 4K review & Two Towers: The Complete Recordings
Here’s a quickie post with some quick bits of news because... you know... Solo tonight.
First up, in honor the Star Wars theme, our own Michael Coate has just posted a great new film retrospective in his History, Legacy & Showmanship column celebrating the 35th anniversary of Return of the Jedi! It’s features a new look back at the film and a great new roundtable interview as well with historians Michael Kaminski (The Secret History of Star Wars), Mark O’Connell (Watching Skies: Star Wars, Spielberg and Us), and Craig Stevens (The Star Wars Phenomenon in Britain). It’s a great read, so be sure to give it a look.
Also today, I’ve posted my review of Sony’s The Patriot in 4K Ultra HD (it’s a terrific disc) and Tim’s also posted a review of The Bloodthirsty Trilogy on Blu-ray from Arrow Video. Note that Universal’s Jurassic Park 4K Collection has finally arrives, so I’ll be diving into that tomorrow. Enjoy! [Read on here…]
