We’ve got a couple things for you today, including some new 4K Ultra HD release news. But first, we have several more new reviews for you to check out...

Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Roger Corman’s The Tomb of Ligeia (1964) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics and also Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman on Blu-ray from Universal.

Stephen has checked in with a look at Peter Greenaway’s The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover and Bruce Beresford’s Breaker Morant, both recently-released on Blu-ray by Umbrella Entertainment, as well as Jon Chu’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation in 4K Ultra HD from Paramount.

And Tim has offered his take on Anthony Hickox’s Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (1989) on Blu-ray from the Vestron Video Collector’s Series, along with Shout! Factory’s new Steelbook 4K Ultra HD release of the animated The Transformers: The Movie.

And for those of you who may be wondering what I’m up to review-wise, I’m currently working on film reviews for the first four Star Trek features, as well as David Lynch’s Dune, and Ridley Scott’s Legend, in anticipation of receiving the newly-remastered 4K (and/or Blu-ray) editions of each from Paramount and Arrow Video respectively in the next week or two. I’m also working on a review of Random Space Media’s recent Battlestar Galactica: The Definitive Collection Blu-ray box set, which is currently the only place you can find Caprica on Blu-ray with no PAL speedup and Region A compatible. So watch for those reviews to start appearing over the next week or so as the actual discs arrive in hand.

Now then, Amazon has just listed (to our great surprise) Marvel’s Black Widow for pre-order on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray with a street date is 9/14 (click here for the 4K link). (Note that there will also be multiple retail-exclusive versions at Target, Best Buy, etc.) It’s rather unusual for Amazon to list ANY Disney, Marvel, or Pixar title for pre-order before street date these days, so we thought it worth mentioning. You can see the cover artwork above-left and also below.

[Editor’s Note: Well... it WAS available for pre-order briefly, but now it’s back down again. I guess someone at Amazon remembered that Jeff Bezos’ preferred corporate policy is that there should always be a pre-order pissing contest with Disney.]

Also, we have word from retail sources that Universal is working on 4K Ultra HD releases of Krampus and Candyland (2021) for 11/16.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is also expected to release Lisa Joy’s Reminiscence on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on 11/9 (it’s available for viewing in 4K with HDR now on HBO Max). Look for the DC Animated Movie Injustice on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 10/19.

RLJ Entertainment is expected to release Prisoners of the Ghostland on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 11/16.

And Magnolia will release Yakuza Princess on Blu-ray and 4K UHD on 11/16 as well.

We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits with all of these titles accordingly.

Finally today, our friends at The Screening Room AV (an excellent Colorado Springs-based home theater retailer) are holding a special online sneak peek webinar on 9/1 where you’ll get a first look at JVC’s new 8K DILA-Laser Projector. Here’s the gist:

“Coming September 1, 2021 A MAJOR LIVE ONLINE EVENT – A DEEP DIVE PROJECTION WEBINAR, featuring JVC National Product Trainer Chris Deutsch, audio/video expert and master calibrator Kris Deering of Deep Dive A/V, and moderator John Schuermann of The Screening Room A/V. Count on us to bring our own UNIQUE, EDUCATIONAL and IN-DEPTH approach to this event! We will be offering unique objective information based upon the participation of a/v expert extraordinaire Kris Deering and his wealth of ‘in the field’ experience with projectors and screen materials. We will also be discussing projection technology in general, setting up a projection system for effective HDR reproduction, choosing the right screen size and screen material, Wide Color Gamut, the importance of conducting proper component comparisons on a level playing field, and more! You’ll want to sign up online to participate, and you can do so here at this link. Meanwhile, here’s JVC’s own teaser video for the projector...

All right, we’ll leave you today with a look at the cover art for Black Widow and a few additional titles (each with Amazon.com pre-order links that are now live)...

Black Widow (4K Ultra HD) Superman: The Complete Animated Series (Blu-ray Disc) Carlito's Way (4K Ultra HD)

That’s all for today. Stay tuned!
