Meanwhile today, a couple of notes...
First, I had the chance to watch special features producer Cory Watson’s terrific 40-minute behind-the-scenes documentary Going Mad: The Battle of Fury Road over the weekend. Let me tell you, it’s WELL worth your time to seek it out. Apparently, the piece wasn’t done in time to be included on the actual physical Blu-ray or 4K releases, however Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has retroactively added it to the extras for Digital copies of the film. So if you have the Blu-ray or 4K, be sure to redeem your iTunes or Movies Anywhere codes—that’s where you’ll find it. Trust me, it’s really good. Tip of the hat to Watson and everyone involved.
Also, are any of you fans of Matthew Robbins’ Dragonslayer (1981)? Some of you may have seen this already, but it’s been added to Amazon Prime for free viewing in HD. And it looks terrific. I’m trying to convince Paramount to release the film on Blu-ray, but until then (if you’re an Amazon Prime member) at least you can finally see the new HD transfer.
Meanwhile, here’s a bit of good news for you Flash Gordon fans: Amazon.co.uk is finally allowing US consumers to import Studio Canal’s forthcoming new 4K Ultra HD restoration. You can do so by clicking here or on the image below (UK street date is August 3rd)...
Finally, we have sad news to report: the great comic actor Fred Willard has died. You’ll know him of course from TV’s Fernwood 2-Night, along with his many Christopher Guest collaborations, which include This Is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Might Wind, and more. Willard was 86.
And before we go, we should also take a moment to acknowledge the recent passing of actor Ken Osmond (76, who played Eddie Haskell on TV’s Leave It to Beaver), director Lynn Shelton (54, Humpday, Sword of Trust), TV reporter/sportscaster Phyllis George (70, The NFL Today), and British rap pioneer Ty (47, whose albums included Awkward, The Kingdem). All will be missed.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned...
