Breaking 4K news: Tremors, Army of Darkness, Collateral, Final Countdown, Beastmaster, Ladykillers, Ip Man & more!
All right Bits readers, we’ve got a pretty significant news update for you today...
We’ve been tracking many of these titles, but a few of the 4K catalog titles we’re going to talk about today are breaking news, thanks to our old friends over at Media Play News.
They’ve just issued the September 2020 Digital edition of their magazine, which features an extensive look at the recent surge of 4K Ultra HD catalog releases. The publication’s editor, Stephanie Prange (who, full disclosure, I’ve known for many years), wrote a great longform piece for the issue called 4K Ultra HD: Into the Vaults about the process of preparing classic catalog films for release on the format.
Not only is it informative (and I should note that I was among the people interviewed therein), it includes some great news about forthcoming titles. [Read on here...]

Update: Official details on 300 and The Resident Evil Collection in 4K Ultra HD
All right, 300 and the Resident Evil 4K releases are now official with details, so we’ll get to those in a moment...
And Dennis has given a Something Weird/Kino Classics title a look on Blu-ray too, a double feature of Sam Newell’s She Should’a Said No! and W. Merle Connell’s The Devil’s Sleep, each released originally back in 1949.
They’re all a hoot, so do give them a look.
Now then, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has issued its press release, making Zack Snyder’s 300 official for 4K Ultra HD on 10/6. [Read on here...]

Warner sets Zack Snyder’s 300 for 4K in October, plus Sony bows a 6-film Resident Evil 4K Collection for November
All right, this is a quick early morning update here at The Bits to let you all know that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is officially releasing Zack Snyder’s 300 on physical 4K Ultra HD on October 6 (SRP $27.99). You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.
Extras will include all of the features from the previous Blu-ray release, including audio commentary by Snyder, deleted scenes, webisodes, multiple behind-the-scenes featurettes and more. It appears that high dynamic range on the 4K disc will be standard HDR10, with Dolby Atmos audio. The package will also include the film on Blu-ray, as well as a digital copy.
But that’s just the first of two big 4K surprises this morning... [Read on here...]

Game of Thrones: Complete 4K official, plus District 9, Westworld: S3, The Thing, Philip K. Dick Festival, Criterion’s WoW reviewed & more
All right, we’ve got some GREAT release news to report for you today. But first, we a couple more new Blu-ray reviews...
Dennis has taken a good long look at Criterion’s lovely new edition of Byron Haskin’s 1953 classic The War of the Worlds on Blu-ray. He talks about the film, the extras (as compared to the recent Imprint Blu-ray) and more. And it looks like Criterion did indeed correct the 4K remaster’s color grade issue (so the opening shot of Mars is now properly red, as it should be). You can find that here.
Also today, Tim has reviewed Jean-Marie Pallardy’s outlandish actioner White Fire (1984), newly released on Blu-ray by Arrow Video. Enjoy!
Now then, on to that big release news...
It’s official: HBO and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have set Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection for release on 4K Ultra HD on 11/3 (SRP $254.99, though expect the usual retailer discounts to be applied soon). There will also be a Best Buy-exclusive Steelbook box set that same day (SRP $285.43, though again expect the usual discount to be applied to that). [Read on here...]

Today’s is a quick update, but we do have a couple interesting items to report...
First, Tim has turned in another new Blu-ray Disc review, this of Gene Fowler Jr.’s B-movie classic I Married a Monster from Outer Space (1958) from Paramount via Aussie indie Imprint Films/Via Vision Entertainment. The disc is ALL REGION.
In announcement news today, Warner Bros. and DC have just officially set the DC Universe animated movie Superman: Man of Tomorrow for release on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 9/8 (the Digital release is set for 8/23).
Extras on both disc versions will include Lobo: Natural Force of Chaos, Martian Manhunter: Lost and Found, Look Back: Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, Look Back: Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, From the DC Vault: Superman: The Animated Series – The Main Man, Part I, From the DC Vault: Superman: The Animated Series – The Main Man, Part II, trailers for Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, and Superman: Red Son, and A Sneak Peek at the next DC Universe Movie. The Invisible Man official, plus classic Dr. Who films on BD & Sony’s Columbia Classics 4K Collection detailed
All right, we’ve got some more release news today and a follow-up on recent news as well...
First though, Tim has turned in his thoughts on Andrew Lane’s Jake Speed (1986), recently released on Blu-ray by Arrow Video.
Now them, first up today: I’ve officially confirmed with Universal Studios Home Entertainment that they have not officially announced the release of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws on 4K Ultra HD yet. HOWEVER... they will be doing so soon. So we’ll have the officially details for you when they do.
I guess this is a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, or more likely there are simply a LOT of people who need to weigh in and approve such things before they get officially announced. Which we expect to happen soonish. [Read on here...]

Universal (sort of) sets Jaws for 4K Ultra HD release on June 2nd, plus RIP Second Spin
The news today is brief, but we’ve got a couple things to report today...
First though, Tim has reviewed a couple of Blu-ray titles for you, including Universal’s Munster, Go Home! (1966) from Scream Factory and Bone Tomahawk (2015), a kind of western horror film from RLJ Entertainment starring Kurt Russell.
But the big news today is that Universal is releasing Steven Spielberg’s Jaws as a 45th Anniversary Edition on 4K Ultra HD on 6/2.
Of course, we first mentioned this title was coming many weeks ago here at The Bits. You can now consider the release almost—but not quite—official. [Read on here...]

Blues Brothers 4K will have BOTH cuts, plus The Mask of Zorro 4K, Parasite 4K in the States & more
I’ve spent (and continue to spend) most of the afternoon today chasing down interesting leads regarding upcoming Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD releases. As a result, we’ve got a couple of good items for you today...
First though, we’ve got another new BD review from Tim, who checks in with his thoughts on Fred Wolf’s animated The Point (1971), now on Blu-ray from the MVD Rewind Collection. Be sure to give it a look.
Also today, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List (with some new UHD titles I’m about to mention) and also our Release Dates & Artwork section with all of the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K cover art and Amazon.com pre-order links. By the way, if you find that the section is missing some titles, it’s due to issues on Amazon’s side, not our end. They’re just making it very difficult for some titles to be found in their database for whatever reason. But we do appreciate your support when you order titles from them though our links—it matters, and we’re grateful for it. [Read on here...]
