A sneak peek at upcoming 4K covers for Spartacus, Jaws & more (plus Blue Underground’s 2nd 4K title)
All right, there’s not a whole lot going on today news-wise, so we’re busy working on new disc reviews.
But we did want to check in briefly with a new interesting odds and ends.
To start with, we have a sneak peek at temp cover artwork from our retail sources (in Europe in this case) for Universal’s Spartacus and Jaws on 4K Ultra HD, which are expected to street widely in June or July (street date TBA). You can see Jaws at left and both of them below. This should be close to final, but know that it’s not actually final until the studio officially announces the titles.
Also coming from Universal on 6/2 (only at Best Buy stores in the US) is a new 4K Ultra HD Steelbook version of Ron Howard’s Apollo 13. You also can see that below. [Read on here...]

Knives Out 4K reviewed, War of the Worlds BD down under, Their Finest Hour & Katherine Johnson RIP
We’re kicking off the new week with a pair of new disc reviews here at The Bits...
It starts with my thoughts on Rian Johnson’s fantastic ‘Whodunnit?’ Knives Out, which streets on 4K Ultra HD tomorrow from Lionsgate. Not only is it a great film, it’s one of the best special editions for a new-release film I’ve seen since The Last Jedi, with a terrific feature-length documentary by our old friend Cliff Stephenson. Don’t even hesitate—just buy the disc right now here and you won’t regret it.
I’ve also reviewed Kino Lorber Studio Classics’ new Blu-ray edition of Guy Hamilton’s Force 10 from Navarone, the 1978 sequel to J Lee Thompson’s original The Guns of Navarone some 18 years in the making. The film stars Harrison Ford, Robert Shaw, and Carl Weathers. The disc streets on March 17th.
There’s not a lot in the way of release news today, but we’ve got a couple things to report... [Read on here...]

Midway, Tex Avery & My Bloody Valentine reviewed, plus Jim Jarmusch, Police Squad & Kirk Douglas RIP
All right, today’s post will be quick, because we’re working on some new reviews for you. To that effect...
I’ve just posted my in-depth thoughts on Roland Emmerich’s Midway (2019), new on 4K Ultra HD from Lionsgate.
I’ve also posted a full review of the Warner Archive Collection’s amazing new Tex Avery Screwball Classics: Volume 1 Blu-ray, which is worth every penny.
And Tim has added his thoughts on Scream Factory’s My Bloody Valentine: Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray.
All three of those title street in the next two weeks, so we hope you enjoy them. [Read on here...]

First of all, Lionsgate has officially set Roland Emmerich’s Midway for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 2/18, with the Digital release expected on 2/4. The 4K version will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. Criterion’s March, more on The Skywalker Saga on 4K, and a little more on Rise of Skywalker (again, no spoilers)
All right, there’s a little more ground to cover today...
First, our friends at The Criterion Collection have announced their March 2020 slate of titles, which is set to include David Maysles’ Salesman (Cat #122 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 3/10, Spike Lee’s Bamboozled (Cat #1019 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 3/17, John M. Stahl’s Leave Her to Heaven (Cat #1020 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Mikhail Kalatozov’s The Cranes Are Flying (Cat #146 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 3/24, and James Whale’s Show Boat (Cat #1021 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Barbra Streisand’s The Prince of Tides (Cat #1022 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 3/31. Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is coming to 4K in March (also Rise of Skywalker is pretty good)
All right, we’ll have more to report tomorrow on The Bits, but I wanted to jump in here quickly this evening with word from retail sources that Disney will release Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga as a 9-film, 27-disc 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray box set on 3/31/2020.
Here’s the thing: We know for sure that Best Buy will have an exclusive SKU (here’s a link to a Best Buy Canada listing for the title). What we don’t know yet is if the entire box set is Best Buy exclusive, or if Best Buy will just have exclusive packaging.
But that obviously means Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will street on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 3/31/2020 as well. [Read on here...]
