Afternoon, folks! I hope you all had a fine weekend. My wife and I have had family visiting for the past few days, so it’s been a nice to catch up. And it seems to have finally stopped raining here in Southern California, so we’ve had nice weather in which to do it.

We’ve got a bunch of interesting new announcement news for you this afternoon, as well as some interesting leaks and pre-order listings for titles that have yet to be announced but could be soon. Let’s get right to it...  [Read on here…]

We have just a quick update for you this afternoon, as I’ve been working hard to get a number of important Blu-ray and 4K titles reviewed this week. As such, I’ve just finished my in-depth look at the wonders of CBS’ new Star Trek: The Original Series – The Roddenberry Vault on Blu-ray, which streets next week (12/13). I’ve also found Lionsgate’s recent Hell or High Water well worth your time on Blu-ray, as it’s one of the best films of 2016. Be sure to give both of them a look.

The big announcement news today is that 20th Century Fox has officially set The Birth of a Nation for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on 1/10. Extras on the Blu-ray will include audio commentary by director Nate Parker, deleted scenes with optional commentary (also included on the 4K), the #AmeriCAN short film with optional commentary, the Rise Up: The Legacy of Nat Turner documentary, 4 featurettes (The Birth of a Nation: The Making of a Movement, “Free God” Spoken Word, Celebration of Independent Voices: Nate Parker, and Shooting Script), and an image gallery. [Read on here…]

First up this afternoon, we have a trio of new disc reviews. I’ve given Sony’s The Da Vinci Code a look on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format and Tim has turned in a new Scream for a Week column with reviews of Jack’s Back and the Black Christmas: Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray Disc. All of them are worth your consideration, especially for fans of the films in question.

Also, our own Russell Hammond has posted the weekly Release Dates & Artwork update with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, anytime you order literally anything from Amazon in the same session after you click to them through one of our links, you’re not only getting a good deal but you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we greatly appreciate it. [Read on here…]

Afternoon, folks. Hope you had a fine weekend. I’m been busy working on new Blu-ray and 4K reviews, the first of which I’m pleased to offer you now...

Here are my thoughts on Universal’s new Frankenstein: Complete Legacy Collection and The Wolf Man: Complete Legacy Collection, which streeted last week and are now available. Both are good upgrades of the previous DVD box sets of the same name, but the value proposition for each is a little complicated. I should note that in order to review these sets, I had to purchase them at my own expense. Universal chose not to make them available for review. Meanwhile, I’m working on additional reviews for posting later and tomorrow, so stay tuned for those.  [Read on here…]

Just a quick update for you today, as we’re working on new Blu-ray and 4K UHD reviews for you...

First up, Scream Factory has just announced the list of extras you’ll find on their 2-disc The Exorcist III: Collector’s Edition Blu-ray, which streets on 10/25. Disc One will include The Exorcist III: Theatrical Cut via new 2K IP scan, with a vintage featurette, vintage interviews, a delete scene, alternate takes, bloopers, a deleted prologue, theatrical trailers, TV spots, and photo galleries. Disc Two will include Legion (the Original Director’s Cut) with all-new extras including an audio interview with writer/director William Peter Blatty and 5 featurettes (A “Wonderfull” Time, Signs of the Gemini, The Devil in the Details, Music for a Padded Cell, and All This Bleeding). You can see the cover artwork at right and below.  [Read on here…]

Now then… a quick Lord of the Rings update: We’ve learned from sources that it’s unlikely Warner has created much in the way of new disc-based content for these new Middle Earth Blu-ray box sets that have appeared on Amazon. We’re going to have to wait for official announcements, but more likely these are just repackages of existing discs in new packaging, probably with all-new swag items – a typical Warner move on Ultimate Collector’s Edition catalog releases in recent years. But we’ll see soon enough.  [Read on here…]
