All right, we have some great release news to report for you all today...

But first, we also have another new Blu-ray review: Tim has taken a look Bruno Mattei’s Cruel Jaws (1995) on Blu-ray from Severin Films. You’ll find that here.

Now then, that news we mentioned...

Our friends at Shout! and Scream Factory have just announced the 4K Ultra HD release of John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness: Collector’s Edition on 1/19. The 4K/Blu-ray package will carry an SRP of $34.98. The 4K disc itself will include Dolby Vision and HDR10 high dynamic range, along with a new Dolby Atmos audio mix. All of the existing extras from Scream’s excellent Blu-ray release will carry over. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below. [Read on here...]

Note that there will also be a special version of this release that comes with a limited edition poster and a Sacred Bones limited edition 7” white and red “splatter vinyl” album featuring newly recorded music by Carpenter, all of which comes in an elaborate slipcase. Visit the Shout!/Scream website here for more.

Speaking of Shout! Factory, Shout! and GKids have announced the Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital release of the animated Lupin III: The First. Look for the discs on 1/12/21, with the Digital release due on 12/15. Extras will include interviews with the director and Japanese cast, a CG model gallery, an animation breakdown, and video of the Yellow Carpet Premiere, as well as theatrical trailers and promos. You can see the Blu-ray artwork below.

Also today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially confirmed the 12/1 4K Ultra HD and Digital release of Stephen Norrington’s Blade (1998). The 4K presentation will feature Dolby Vision and HDR10 high dynamic range, along with Dolby Atmos audio. Extras will include audio commentary (with Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff, David S. Goyer, Theo Van De Sande, Kirk M. Petruccelli, and Peter Frankfurt) and the isolated score with commentary by composer Mark Isham. We’ve posted that cover artwork before, but we’ll include it again below as well.

And finally today, MANY of you have asked whether Paramount will be releasing Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone on 4K Ultra HD. As you know, the studio has already officially announced the 12/8 Blu-ray and Digital release of the film. Well, we have some good news for you... Paramount has just provided The Digital Bits with this official statement on the matter:

“At this time, we will be releasing Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone on Blu-ray and Digital. In anticipation of the 50th anniversary of The Godfather in 2022, Paramount is working on restoring all films in this franchise, preparing for new home entertainment releases including 4K UHD physical and digital releases. More details will be released at a later date.”

So there you go: The Godfather films are OFFICIALLY on their way to 4K. You’ll just need to be patient for a year or so. But we’d like to offer a tip of the hat to the folks at Paramount for letting us know, so that you can all make a more informed decision as to whether or not to purchase the Blu-ray now. It’s appreciated. Our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits has been updated accordingly.

Here’s a look at that cover artwork we mentioned (with Amazon pre-order links if available)...
