Meanwhile, Scream Factory has just made available a pair of deep catalog Roger Corman-produced films on Blu-ray: a Caged Heat/Jackson County double feature and Streetwalkin’. Surprise: Both are available NOW direct from Shout via their website here. Only 1,000 units of each are available.
Paramount has set The Great: Season One for DVD only release on 10/20. The series is “a satirical, comedic drama—and occasionally true story—about the rise of Catherine the Great.” The DVD will come with 2 featurettes and a gag reel. It’s now available on Digital.
Classicflix is going to be releasing the 3-D Film Archive’s recent Blu-ray 3-D restoration of the Abbott and Costello film Africa Screams (1949) on 10/27. You can pre-order it now on Amazon (click on the cover artwork below).
Abkco is releasing the Alejandro Jodorowsky: 4K Restoration Collection on Blu-ray here in the States on 8/21 (SRP $72.98). This is an Arrow title in the UK. The set will include new 4K restorations of El Topo, The Holy Mountain, and Fando Y Lis, along with the home video premiere of Jodo’s latest film Psychomagic, A Healing Art. From the press release: “Loaded with extras and ephemera, the box set features a 78-page book with photos and essays, a set of art cards together with 4 Blu-ray discs and 2 CDs housed in a high quality case. Also included are new interviews with Jodorowsky, his son Brontis, who makes his acting debut as the young boy in El Topo and Pablo Leder, Jodorowsky’s long time personal assistant. Columbia University professor Richard Peña provides insightful introductions to each of these classic films. A short film, The A to Z of The Holy, narrated by Jodorowsky biographer Ben Cobb, probes the history of Jodorowsky and his films. RLJE Films will release Demián Rugna’s horror film Terrified on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/1.
FUNimation is re-releasing Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name in a new Blu-ray Steelbook edition on 10/20.
Any fans of Ren & Stimpy out there? Gravitas Ventures is releasing Ron Cicero and Kimo Easterwood’s Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story documentary digitally on 8/14, with a physical media release due to follow on 10/13. The film chronicles the making of the highly-influential 90s animated gem, as well as the rise and fall of its controversial creator John Kricfalusi. The film has been getting great reviews on the festival circuit so do keep your eyes peeled for it. You can see the trailer below...
