Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has just set the new Poltergeist remake for Extended Cut release on Blu-ray 3D Combo, Blu-ray Combo, and DVD on 9/4. It includes an alternate ending, an image gallery, and theatrical trailers.
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has just set a Back to the Future: 30th Anniversary Trilogy Box set for Blu-ray release on 10/20. The set includes all three films, plus the complete Animated Series, an all-new bonus disc of extras (with more than two hours of content), the 64-page Back to the Future: A Visual History book, UltraViolet digital copies, and collectible light-up Flux Capacitor packaging. Extras include – but are not limited to – all-new original shorts (including Doc Brown Saves the World), OUTATIME: Restoring the DeLorean, the 9-part Looking Back to the Future documentary, all 22 episodes of The Animated Series, the 6-part Tales from the Future documentary, The Physics of Back to the Future, deleted scenes, a Michael J. Fox Q&A, 8 archival featurettes, behind-the-scenes footage, music videos, audio commentaries, Back to the Future: The Ride, Drawn to the Future (new interview with creator/writer Bob Gale and writer John Ludin), and photo galleries (with rare archival materials featuring sketches, storyboards and more). In other news, Paramount and Comedy Central have set South Park: Season 18 for Blu-ray release on 10/6 (SRP $35.99).
Paramount and Showtime have set Penny Dreadful: Season Two for Blu-ray release on 10/6 as well (SRP $48.99).
And Paramount and Spike have set Tut for Blu-ray and DVD release on 10/6 too (SRP $39.99 and $25.47).
Also today, MPI will release Manglehorn on Blu-ray on 10/6.
Mill Creek has set Spaced Invaders and The Big Picture for Blu-ray release on 9/15.
Sony has set a double feature Blu-ray of Hotel Transylvania and Monster House for release on 9/22.
Lionsgate has set Chain of Command for Blu-ray release on 9/22.
In other news, we’ve checked in with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and learned that all of the discs in the new Bond Blu-ray releases are the same masters that were done for the Bond 50 box set. The same is also true with the Nakatomi Die Hard Collection. Just FYI, as I know many of you were wondering. I would guess that any new 4K re-masters of those titles, such as they may exist, are being saved for Ultra HD Blu-ray. But that’s just speculation.
Also, we’ve learned that the legendary film preservation Robert Harris (Lawrence of Arabia, It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, My Fair Lady) was involved in the new restoration of Stanley Kubrick’s Spartacus with Universal, so rest assure that it’s been done right and should look terrific on Blu-ray.
