We have a few major title announcements to report today...

First up, the big one: Disney and Marvel have officially set James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 8/1, with the Digital release expected on 7/7. You can expect Dolby Atmos audio and HDR10 high dynamic range on the 4K SKU. The Blu-ray Disc will include 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. But here’s the most interesting thing: For the first time, a Disney/Marvel title has included a variable aspect ratio that switches from 2.35 to 1.85! [Editor’s Note: Per studio reps, this replicates not the IMAX presentation but rather the wide-release presentation of the film as seen in some regular, non-IMAX theaters. Just FYI.]

Extras on all SKUs will include 2 featurettes (The Imperfect, Perfect Family and Creating Rocket Raccoon), a gag reel, 8 deleted scenes (A Bit Much, A Lending Hand, Drax’s Analogies and Metaphors, The Perfect Society, The Search for 89P13, Annoyed Peter, A Burning Escape, and Knowhere After the Battle), and audio commentary with James Gunn. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below. [Read on here...]

Also today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the 4K Ultra HD release of Danny Cannon’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer on 9/26, in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary. The film has been scanned from the original camera negative and features Dolby Vision HDR, along with an all-new Dolby Atmos sound mix. You’ll also get a new audio commentary with Cannon, along with legacy extras that include He Still Knows What You Did: An Interview with Muse Watson, a Making-of featurette, Jennifer Love Hewitt’s How Do I Deal music video, and the theatrical trailer. You can see the cover artwork below.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has officially set Sylvester Stallone’s Staying Alive (1983) for release on 4K Ultra HD and remastered Blu-ray on 8/29, and it’s now available for pre-order on Amazon. Again, the cover art is available below.

Universal’s Battlestar Galactica (1979) 4K Ultra HD has been delayed to 8/29 (from the original 7/11 date). Adjust your plans accordingly.

And our friends at Turbine Media in Germany have announced a few 4K Ultra HD titles they’re working on for release in the months ahead, including Black Phone (2021), Pearl (2022), Infinity Pool (2023), and Renfield (2023). All should include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.

Finally today, a number of readers have reported that 20th Century Studio’s Blu-ray 3D release of Avatar: The Way of Water is in short supply at retailers and is selling out many places. I’ve contacted the studio and confirmed that more copies are in replication. So if you’re looking for a copy, you should all be able to get one in the coming weeks. The best way to make sure is to ask your preferred retailer to order it.

We’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for those three titles mentioned above, with Amazon.com pre-order links if available (if not yet available, we’ll add them as they go live)...

Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 (4K Ultra HD) I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (4K Ultra HD) Staying Alive (4K Ultra HD)

Stay tuned!
