Audio will be 5.1 DTS-HD MA and it seems as if high dynamic range will be HDR10 only (there’s no mention of Dolby Vision in the press release).
Also, the Best Buy website seems to indicate that this title will only be available from them, however the official press release makes no mention of this. We’ve asked the studio for clarification and will post an update here when we hear back. [Liongate just responded and confirmed that this title is a Best Buy exclusive for now.]
A couple other pieces of release news today...
Multiple retail sources are now indicating that Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release Michael Bay’s Ambulance on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 6/14. If that’s true, expect an announcement soon. (You can pre-order it here on Amazon now.)
And those same sources are also confirming a bit of news that we first broke here at The Bits late last year (see this post), which is that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be releasing Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow (2014 – aka Live, Die, Repeat) on 4K Ultra HD on 7/5. Again, watch for an official announcement soon.
Finally today, here’s something very cool for Trek fans: Otoy and Star Trek production veterans Mike and Denise Okuda have posted an update on their work on The Gene Roddenberry Archive, which includes an effort to create a life-size digital replica of the USS Enterprise that you can visit and interact with in virtual reality. And not just one Enterprise, but all of them. Here’s a great update video on YouTube, and we strongly recommend that you watch this in 4K...
I take that as proof that the world isn’t all bad. There are exciting and hopeful things happening all around if you bother to look for them.
That’s all for today. Stay tuned...!
