Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just revealed that Netflix’s House of Cards: The Complete Second Season will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/17. Extras will include 5 featurettes (Two Houses, Table Read, Direct Address, Politics for Politics Sake, and Line of Succession).
Universal Studios Home Entertainment has set Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor for Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 6/3. Blu-ray exclusive extras will include 4 featurettes (Will of the Warrior, Recreating the Firefight, Learning the Basics, and The Pashtun Code of Life). To this, both versions will add 2 more featurettes (Bringing the Story to Light and The Fallen Heroes of Operation Red Wings).
Also today, a quick heads-up: Criterion is announcing their July Blu-ray/DVD (Dual Disc) release slate later this afternoon, but it wasn’t ready as of press time. So watch the official website for updates and rest assured that we’ll check back in here at The Bits early tomorrow morning with all the title details and a look at the cover artwork.
On the catalog front, Warner Bros. has set New Line’s The Avengers and Rush Hour 2 for Blu-ray release on 8/12.
B2MP will release Tomorrow, starring Robert Duvall on Blu-ray/DVD Combo, exclusively on their website (b2mp.net). Pre-orders are on now with an SRP of $29.98 and shipping set to start later this month. Upcoming releases from B2MP include “a Native American silent film Blu-ray set, which will include The Last of the Mohicans and The Silent Enemy in high definition and The Vanishing American in standard definition, and a Blu-ray/DVD combo of Around the World With Orson Welles: The Complete Series, including the previously lost episode, Revisiting Vienna, aka The Third Man Returns to Vienna.”
Magnolia Home Entertainment will release Grand Piano on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/20, starring Elijah Wood and John Cusack.
And Shout! Factory has set The Angela Mao Ying Collection for DVD release on 5/12 (SRP $34.93). The set will include When Taekwondo Strikes (1973), Stoner (1974), The Tournament (1974), Queen’s Ransom (1976), The Himalayan (1976), and Broken Oath (1977).
In other news, note that CBS Home Entertainment has moved the street date for Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season Six and Star Trek: The Next Generation – Chain of Command on Blu-ray to 6/24 (from 6/3). Adjust your plans accordingly.
Finally, this would normally be considered Rumor Mill-worthy, but we’ll post it here for simplicity’s sake: The Gerry Anderson-themed Andercon convention happens in London on 4/19-20, and according to official website Network will be showing HD remastered episodes of Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, and Joe 90, as well as Space: 1999 – Season Two and a documentary for the latter (possibly being created for the BD release) called Space: 1999 – Season 2: On Set, In Production. So perhaps this means Blu-ray releases of these properties are on the way, which would be especially good news in the case of the long-awaited Space: 1999 – Season Two. Watch for an official update during the convention. With any luck we’ll hear something about Blu-ray then. Thanks to Canadian Bits reader Dave F. for the heads-up!
We’ll leave you today with a look at the Blu-ray cover art for Sony’s House of Cards: The Complete Second Season, Universal’s Lone Survivor, and Warner’s The Avengers...
Stay tuned!
