We’ve got a bit of fun news today, some release news and some other...

First up though, we also have a new disc review. Dennis has just turned in a look at director George Marshall’s classic Destry Rides Again (1939) now on Blu-ray from the Criterion Collection. It’s a classic western starring James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich that’s well worth your time.

And while we’re speaking of Criterion, that brings us to our first bit of release news, which is that Criterion has just announced a Bruce Lee: His Greatest Hits Blu-ray box set (Spine# 1036), which is set to include The Big Boss (1971), Fist of Fury (1972), The Way of the Dragon (1972), Enter the Dragon (1973), and Game of Death (1978). Watch for this impressive box on 7/14 (SRP $124.95). You can pre-order it now on the Criterion website for just $87.46. It’s also available for pre-order on Amazon.com (and we suspect the sale price will be added to match Criterion’s in the next few days).

Tokyo Olympiad (Criterion Blu-ray Disc) Bruce Lee: His Greatest Hits (Criterion Blu-ray Disc) The Cameraman (Criterion Blu-ray Disc)

Portrait of a Lady on Fire (Criterion Blu-ray Disc) Come and See (Criterion Blu-ray Disc) An Unmarried Woman (Criterion Blu-ray Disc)

As you can see, we’ve also added Criterion’s other recently-announced June Blu-ray titles, which are now available for pre-order on Amazon as well.

Don’t forget that Sony’s Columbia Classics Collection: Volume 1 4K/Blu-ray box set is also available for pre-order for just $112.99 (street date 6/16).

In other news, Arrow Video has set The Mad Fox for release on Blu-ray on 6/23.

Lionsgate has set Marc Meyers’ We Summon the Darkness for Blu-ray and DVD on 6/9.

We have it on good authority that Scream Factory’s forthcoming The Hills Run Red Blu-ray (currently due 6/16) is going to be loaded with nearly four hours of extras, almost all of them newly curated by director Dave Parker and producer Robert Meyer Burnett. All of the previous DVD extras will carry over too.

Speaking of Scream, the Tales from the Darkside: The Movie – Collector’s Edition Blu-ray is now set to street on 8/11.

Shout! Factory has also added the World War II film Resistance for Blu-ray release on 7/21.

Here’s some cover art for upcoming Shout and Scream titles, all now available for pre-order on Amazon...

Glengarry Glenn Ross (Blu-ray Disc) The Hills Run Red (Blu-ray Disc) Orca (Blu-ray Disc)

Also today, our friends over at Media Play News have just announced the winners of their annual Home Media Awards. I was honored once again to serve as a judge for the awards. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood earned the top price, winning both Title of the Year and Best Theatrical Home Release. Blu-ray Disc of the Year went to Lionsgate’s Apocalypse Now: Final Cut, which also won Best Catalog Home Release and Best Box Art. HBO’s Game of Thrones: The Complete Series won TV on Disc of the Year and Best Packaging. And Fan-Favorite Title of the Year went to Fox’s Alita: Battle Angel. Congratulations to all the winners, and be sure to click here to see the complete list.

And finally, it appears that the first image and the official logo for Denis Villeneuve’s forthcoming adaptation of Dune have dropped this morning. Here they are...

Dune

Dune

This is part of a first look piece at Vanity Fair that’s worth your time. And as a fan of the original Frank Herbert, one of the great epics of science fiction literature, all I can say based upon those two images is that I find them VERY encouraging. I can’t wait for this film.

All right, that’s it for today. Stay tuned...!
