All right, we’re back with a news update today and we’ve got a bunch of reviews to share with you today as well. Sorry it’s taken a few days to get back to news coverage this week, but I had a bunch of stuff to deal with this week, including checking in with our industry sources but also clearing a few important items off my review stack, after having my mother visiting for about ten days earlier this month.

As such, I’ve recently reviewed Sony’s terrific The Karate Kid: Ultimate Collection in 4K Ultra HD, a 6-film Amazon-exclusive box set that includes all of the films in this series plus some nice extras and great swag as well. It’s definitely worth getting your hands on if you’re a fan of the series.

On Monday, I also reviewed our friends Jeffrey Morris’ excellent new Space: 1999-themed documentary The Eagle Obsession. That’s coming on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD in 2026, so we’ll cover it then too.

Meanwhile, Tim has reviewed more of Arrow’s Shawscope: Volume Two Blu-ray box set—specifically Chang Cheh’s Ten Tigers of Kwangtung (1980)—as well as Peter Medak’s The Odd Job (1978) and The Ghost of Peter Sellers (2018) both on Blu-ray from Severin Films.

Dennis has taken a look at Alice Wu’s Saving Face (2004) on Blu-ray from the Criterion Collection.

Stephen has offered his thoughts on Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull (1980) as newly-released in 4K Ultra HD by the folks at Imprint Films, as well as Atsushi Yamatoya’s Inflatable Sex Doll of the Wastelands (1967) and Jiří Barta’s The Pied Piper & Jiří Barta Shorts (1986) both on Blu-ray from Deaf Crocodile.

And Stuart has reviewed Tōru Murakawa’s The Beast to Die (1980) on Blu-ray from Radiance. [Read on here...]

Now then, in announcement news today, Universal has revealed a new Back to the Future: 40th Anniversary Trilogy for release on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray on 10/14. Also coming that day will be new 4K Steelbook editions of each of the three films in the trilogy. It appears that the set will include a new bonus disc (as well as the previous one). New special features will include Back to Hill Valley (16 mins), Untold Stories of Back to the Future (36 mins), A Mystery in History (9 mins), 40 Years Later: Reflecting on The Future (24 mins), and TCM Classic Film Festival Panel 2025 (15 mins). We don’t have any information however that these are new remasters—most likely they’re the existing discs repackaged.

Back to the Future: 40th Anniversary Trilogy (4K UHD)

It appears that Warner Bros. is going to be re-issuing their Superman: 5-Film Collection in 4K Ultra HD on 10/21, and reissuing Superman: The Movie in 4K as well that same day. This package is a wide-release version of new Amazon-exclusive box set that streets next week on 9/2. We assume that it will feature all the new fixed 4K discs that correct many errors discovered by fans in the 2023 set.

On that note once again, if you have that original 2023 set, you can get the new corrected discs from Warner by emailing their customer service at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Include some kind of proof of purchase (a packaging shot, a proof of order snapshot, a receipt photo, etc). You may or may not get an email reply, but they will take your address and send the fixed discs when they become available (which should be later this month). To my knowledge, no one has yet received the fixed discs, but the moment I hear that people are getting them—or get my own hands on them—I’ll let everyone know.

While we’re talking Warner Bros., we’ve confirmed that they will be releasing Joseph Kosinski’s F1: The Movie (2025) on Blu-ray and 4K UHD in the next couple of months—it won’t just be an Apple TV+ streaming release. So watch for more information soon.

Meanwhile, Paramount is releasing The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) as a 4K UHD single on 11/4. It had been released previously as part of the ZAZ: The Collection! 4K box set last year.

Paramount will also release Yellowstone: The Complete Series on Blu-ray on 11/18.

And Shout Factory will be releasing their new 4K Ultra HD and 4K Steelbook edition of Hideaki Anno’s Shin Godzilla (2016) on 10/28. It will feature HDR10 high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio.

Also today, CrunchyRoll will release Attack on Titan: The Complete Final Season on Blu-ray Steelbook on 11/25.

Adult Swim has set Rick and Morty: Season Eight for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/11.

And PBS has just set The American Revolution: A Film by Ken Burns (2025) for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/18. I’m really looking forward to this series. It includes all 13 episodes on 6 discs.

Also today, our friends at Arrow Video have finally teased their November 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray announcement, which is due to happen on their social media on Friday morning. But as you’ll know if you read our post here on Friday, retail sources—including Zavvi—have already leaked the title list, which includes Chuck Russell’s The Mask (1994), Wilder’s The Apartment (1960), Christian Tafdrup’s Speak No Evil (2022), Antony’s Hoffman’s Red Planet (2000), Peter Hyams’ Outland (1981), and Wes Craven’s Deadly Friend (1986). We’ll share the official details and all the cover artwork here on The Bits when Arrow finally reveals them.

Here’s a look at some of Criterion’s recently announced November slate, with Amazon.com pre-order links…

Eyes Wide Shut (4K Ultra HD) The Breakfast Club (4K Ultra HD) Hell's Angels (4K Ultra HD)
