Afternoon, Bits readers! We’re starting today with some more new disc reviews...

First up, I’ve taken a look at Lucasfilm and Disney’s new 4K Ultra HD release of The Mandalorian: The Complete Third Season (2023) which streets in Steelbook packaging tomorrow.

Also, Tim has given Clint Eastwood’s Play Misty for Me (1971) a look in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio classics.

And Tim has also reviewed the two new Looney Tunes Blu-ray releases from the Warner Archive Collection, including Volume 4 and a collected Volumes 1-4 edition.

More reviews are forthcoming all this week, so be sure to watch for them.

The big news today is that Vinegar Syndrome, over the weekend, sold out its entire 12,000-unit run of their just-announced 4K Limited Edition of Michael Mann’s The Keep (1983). That’s probably no surprise; the title has been a home entertainment holy grail for something like two decades. We do expect at some point that there will be a standard edition more widely available from the company. [Read on here...]

In the meantime, Imprint Films in Australia has also just announced that they’re going to be releasing their own 4K UHD and Blu-ray edition of The Keep, though no specific street date has yet been given. The point being, in the event that you missed Vinegar Syndrome’s Limited Edition release, there should be additional chances to get your hands on the film in the months ahead.

Also, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has announced that they’re working on new 4K Ultra HD editions of Jack Nicholson’s Chinatown sequel The Two Jakes (1990) for release in the months ahead, as well as Curtis Hanson’s The River Wild (1994) and a new Two Spaghetti Western Classics 4K release of Sergio Corbucci’s The Hellbenders (1967) and Enzo G. Castellari’s Kill Them All and Come Back Alone (1968). That last one streets on 2/4, while the others are TBA.

And Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Robert Zemeckis’ Here (2024), starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/21/25, with the Digital release now available. Extras on all versions will include deleted scenes and the How We Got Here featurette.

In other news, Hollywood just posted its best theatrical Thanksgiving ever with the animated Moana 2 (Disney), John M. Chu’s Wicked: Part One (Universal), and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II (Paramount) all posting strong ticket sales numbers. You can read more here at The Hollywood Reporter today.

Back tomorrow with more. Stay tuned!
