In terms of announcement news today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just officially set Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD formats on 10/10, with the Digital HD version due on 9/12. The Blu-ray versions are going to be loaded with extras, including audio commentary with the director, a second commentary with the director and DP, 20 minutes of deleted and extended scenes, 10 behind-the-scenes featurettes (including Mozart in a Go-Kart, I Need a Killer Track: The Music, That’s My Baby: Edgar Wright, Meet Your New Crew: Doc’s Gang, Find Something Funky on There: The Choreography, Devil Behind the Wheel: The Car Chases, Animatics, Ansel Elgort Audition, Annotated Coffee Run Rehearsal, and Hair, Make Up & Costume Tests), Mint Royale’s Blue Song music video, and a Complete Storyboard Gallery for the entire film.
Sony has also set The Shadow Man for DVD and Digital HD release on 10/31.
Did any of you happen to see last night’s Season 7 finale for Game of Thrones? Whew! You’ll be glad to know that HBO’s Game of Thrones: The Complete Seventh Season is now available for pre-order on Blu-ray (click here) and DVD and you can see the BD cover artwork below.
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of an L.A. Confidential: 20th Anniversary Edition on 9/26. Looks like all the previous extras will carry over, but no new content. Fox has also just set the Buffy the Vampire Slayer film for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/3 as a new 25th Anniversary Edition. The Digital HD release is due on 10/2. Again, it looks as if all the previous extras will carry over.
Kino Lorber has revealed that they’re working on The Woman in the Window (1944) for Blu-ray and DVD from a new HD restoration. They also have Not as a Stranger (1955) and Cop-Out (1967) coming soon on Blu-ray and/or DVD. For Chuck Norris fans, they have Code of Silence (1985) coming on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/5. And for Farrah Fawcett fans, they have The Burning Bed (the 1984 TV movie) coming on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/7.
Meanwhile, Synapse Films is releasing a new Blu-ray and DVD special edition of the 90s cult horror comedy Popcorn on 10/3. There’s also a limited edition Blu-ray that comes in Steelbook packaging.
And BBC Home Entertainment will release Red Dwarf XII on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/14. BBC will also release Doctor Who: The Complete Tenth Series on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/14.
In other industry news, 20th Century Fox, Panasonic, and Samsung have just announced a new partnership to develop HDR-10+, which is meant to be an open, royalty-free high dynamic range technology extension of current HDR-10. They’re going to have a whole certification and logo program as part of this effort. You can read more here at Home Media magazine.
And we need to take a moment today to acknowledge the passing of legendary horror director Tobe Hooper. You’ll know him of course for having made the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), but his work also includes Poltergeist (1982), TV’s Salem’s Lot (1979), and more. He was 74.
