Today’s update is a quick one, as I was up pretty late working on Bits-related stuff for the site.

BUT... we’re very pleased today to kick off Dr. Jahnke’s annual Hell Plaza Oktoberfest here at The Bits! As you longtime readers know, each year in the month of October, Adam posts a new Halloween-themed Blu-ray or DVD review daily here at the site and this year is no exception. Adam kicks things off this year by continuing to review the individual films in Anchor Bay and Scream Factory’s new Halloween: The Complete Collection box set. Our very own Dr. Adam Jahnke has just posted his overall review of Scream Factory and Anchor Bay’s terrific new Halloween: The Complete Collection – Deluxe Edition Blu-ray box set! Jahnke talks overall quality and content, and reviews the first three films in the set. You can also look at this review as a preview of this year’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest (which kicks off on 10/1), for which he’ll review all the rest of the films in the set plus a whole lot more. We’ve got a couple of interesting pieces of announcement news to report today, and then I have some thoughts on the recent news about Blu-ray 4K. So let’s get to it. First up, the announcement news…

Lionsgate has just set A Most Wanted Man for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/4 (SRP $29.99 and $26.98), with a digital release on 10/28. Extras will include a pair of featurettes (The Making of A Most Wanted Man and Spymaster: John le Carré in Hamburg).  [Read on here…]

Anchor Bay and Starz have finally officially announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of Bong Joon Ho’s  science fiction/actioner Snowpiercer on 10/21 (SRP $29.99 and $24.98). The film stars Chris Evans, Song Kang Ho, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, Ewen Bremner, John Hurt, and Ed Harris. We’ve seen it here at The Bits; it’s pretty terrific. Both versions will include the director’s proper 126-minute cut, a critics commentary, and a bonus disc that adds 5 featurettes (The Birth of Snowpiercer, The Characters, Chris Evans & Tilda Swinton on Snowpiercer, The Train Brought to Life: Behind the Scenes of a Special Screening, and Transperceneige: From the Blank Page to the Black Screen), an animated prologue, and concept art galleries. [Read on here…]
