All right, it’s FINALLY official.

As we’ve been expecting for weeks now, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just issued their press release announcing the Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet on December 15th (SRP $44.95, $35.99, and $28.98 respectively).

You can see the 4K Ultra HD cover artwork at left and also below, along with the Blu-ray and DVD cover art.

In terms of special features, the 4K and Blu-ray versions will include an hour-long documentary on the production called Looking at the World in a New Way: The Making of Tenet. [Read on here...]

We’re awaiting confirmation of the 4K technical specs, but retail sources are tentatively telling us to look for 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, HDR10 high dynamic range, and possibly a variable aspect ratio presentation (that shifts from 2.20:1 to 1.78:1). I’ll post an Editor’s Note here as soon as I’ve confirmed all that directly with the studio, which I’m now doing.

Currently available details include:

  • DVD Languages: English, Latin Spanish, English-ADS, Canadian French
  • BD Languages: English, Latin Spanish, Canadian French, English-ADS, Brazilian Portuguese
  • DVD Subtitles: English SDH, Latin Spanish, Parisian French
  • BD Subtitles: English, Latin Spanish, Parisian French, Brazilian Portuguese
  • Running Time: 151 minutes

The title is also now available for pre-order at retail, with the usual wide-release versions as well as Best Buy and Zavvi 4K Steelbooks editions (click here for Zavvi US and here for Zavvi UK).

Meanwhile, here’s the wide-release cover artwork with Amazon.com pre-order links...

And in other news today, as I mentioned back on Friday, I had the great pleasure of chatting last week via Zoom with our friends over at TheOneRing.net about the upcoming 4K release of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. We had a great discussion that you’ll all be able to see for yourselves today starting at 5 PM Pacific on their TORn Tuesday webcast on YouTube. Here’s a viewing link…

[Editor’s Note: The video was supposed to include a look at the actual 4K master for both the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies, but only Hobbit was sent by WBHE (and this only in 720p and HDR, which doesn’t look right in SDR). The One Ring is attempting to get the proper clips and they’ll be encoding a new 4K version of this video when they’re available.]

That’s all for the moment. Stay tuned...!
