Twentieth Century Fox has recently set Kingman: The Golden Circle for release 4K on 12/12 (along with Blu-ray and DVD) and you can expect a Kingsman: 2-Movie Collection on 4K as well that same day. They’re also taking pre-orders on the TBA 4K releases of The Mountain Between Us and Murder on the Orient Express (2017).
BBC Home Entertainment will release Earth: One Amazing Day on 4K Ultra HD on 1/23/18.
Image Entertainment and RLJ will release Brawl in Cell Block 99, starring Vince Vaughn, and Mayhem on 4K (as well as Blu-ray and DVD) on 12/26.
Lionsgate will release Jigsaw in 4K in early 2018 and should finally release their delayed Terminator 2: Judgment Day 4K then as well.
As for Sony, you can expect Only the Brave to be released on 4K in early 2018. Julie Taymor’s Across the Universe should be available for pre-order soon for release on 1/9/18. A Groundhog Day: 25th Anniversary Edition will be released on Ultra HD as a Best Buy exclusive title on 1/23/18. Meanwhile, a previous Best Buy-exclusive title – Léon: The Professional – goes into wide release on 12/12. The Men in Black Trilogy arrives on 4K on 12/5 here in the States. In the UK, 4K Ultra HD singles of Men in Black, Men in Black II, and Men in Black III are available for pre-order with a release date of 11/27. The UK is also getting a Spider-Man Legacy Collection 5-film box set on 11/6 – this contains the Spider-Man Legacy Collection and The Amazing Spider-Man Legacy Collection in one package.
Amazon is taking pre-orders on Universal’s American Made. The Snowman is expected on the format as well.
Our sources have confirmed that the next Disney 4K Ultra HD release will likely be Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and you can already pre-order it in the UK at this link.
Finally, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment might have the most surprising offerings of all. First up, we’ve got a sneak peek for you at the cover artwork for Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises in 4K Ultra HD which are expected to street on 12/19 (see the covers below), along with The Dark Knight Trilogy Collection in 4K Ultra HD. Pre-orders should be going live soon on Amazon.com. The studio is obviously going to be releasing Geostorm, Stephen King’s It, The LEGO Ninjago Movie, and Justice League on 4K Ultra HD in early 2018. But we’re now hearing that Warner is preparing the Mad Max High Octane Collection for release on 4K Ultra HD, as well as a Hanna Barbera Diamond Collection. The former is likely to include the same films as its Blu-ray counterpart, while the latter is expected to be a sampler of classic TV titles. But we expect to learn more soon.
Of course, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits with all of these titles and more. Please bookmark the list for handy use, as we include such information as whether a title is Native 4K (N4K – all others are 2K upconverts), whether it has Dolby Vision HDR (DV – titles not marked DV have HDR10), and the inclusion Dolby Atmos or DTS:X object-based audio (DA, X). US and UK Amazon pre-order links are included for every title where available. If we’ve reviewed the title here at The Bits, we link to our review as well. And, to the best of our ability, we indicate titles for which the A/V quality is standout (*) or reference quality (**). As we learn of new 4K Ultra HD titles that are expected to be released, this is where we’ll add them first. So keep checking back and please use our Amazon pre-order links whenever you can (we appreciate it)!
Before we let you go, here’s a look at the cover art for Interstellar, American Assassin, Mayhem, and all three Christopher Nolan Dark Knight titles (click on the covers to visit their respective Amazon pre-order pages, if available)...
Back on Monday... stay tuned!
