Okay, we’ve got some big news for you today...

First though, we’ve posted a few new disc reviews in the last couple of days, including my own takes on Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 4K from Warner Bros, Air Force One in 4K from Sony Pictures, and Jonny Quest: The Complete Original Series on regular Blu-ray from Warner. Tim has also posted his thoughts on Shout! Factory’s new The Harder They Come: Collector’s Edition. All are work a look, so do check them out at the links provided.

Now then, let’s get to that news. First, this is not yet officially announced (even though we revealed it on social media a couple days ago), but retail links from various online sources confirm what we’ve been saying for a while now here at The Bits, namely that Warner will release The Wizard of Oz on 4K Ultra HD in October in honor of the film’s 80th anniversary. Specifically, Best Buy has revealed that they’ll have an exclusive Steelbook edition of The Wizard of Oz on 10/29. This means a wide release is likely coming elsewhere on that same day. Here’s a look at the Steelbook artwork...

The Wizard of Oz (4K Ultra HD - Best Buy Steelbook)

We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly. We expect an official announcement of the title sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Also today, Sony has just set Skatetown, U.S.A. (1979) for release on Blu-ray on 9/24. It’s a bit obscure, but it has its fans and it must have taken a lot of work to clear all the music rights. But rest easy, fans – it’s finally coming.

Now here’s the other big piece of news today... CBS Home Entertainment has just announced a new Twin Peaks: From Z to A Blu-ray box set due to be released in the US and Canada on 12/10. Numbered to just 25,000 copies, the set will include both seasons of the original series, the new Limited Event Series, the film Fire Walk with Me, and The Missing Pieces on 21 discs. Also new in this box set will be never-before-released behind-the-scenes footage on the making of the new series, a new interview with Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee, a newly produced featurette (On the Couch) with Harry Goaz and Kimmy Robertson, full-length/unedited versions of musical performances at The Roadhouse Bar (from the Limited Event Series), many extras from the previous Blu-ray and DVD releases, and a 4K Ultra HD disc with the original series pilot and Part 8 from the Limited Event Series. (It’s possible this is a test for future releases of the series on the format.)

Here’s what the package looks like (and if you click on the cover artwork, you can pre-order the title on Amazon.com for $139.99 (the sale price hasn’t been added yet, but if you pre-order now you’ll get the discount when it is)...

Twin Peaks from Z to A (Blu-ray Disc)

In addition to this new box set, CBS is also releasing Twin Peaks: The Television Collection on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/15. This is the first time all three seasons of the series will be sold together (sans Fire Walk with Me and other extras from the Z to A box). Here’s what that packaging will look like (again, click to pre-order them on Amazon)...

All right, that’s all for the moment. Stay tuned...
