All right, this just in from our industry sources...

Universal is confirmed to be preparing to release a new Marx Brothers set, The Marx Brothers Silver Screen Collection – Restored Edition on Blu-ray on 10/18, set to include The Cocoanuts, Animal Crackers, Monkey Business, Horse Feathers, and Duck Soup. This will be a 3-disc set and an upgrade of the existing DVD edition (first released by the studio in 2004). As many of you know, Universal has recently completed the 4K restoration of all five films (see here) and those restorations will be the source material for this release. [Read on here…]

The films will be presented in 1080p HD in their original aspect ratios and will feature English 2.0 Mono audio in DTS-HD MA format. Extras will include the legacy DVD features, among them trailers and Today Show interview clips. New extras for this release will include audio commentary by film historian Anthony Slide on The Cocoanuts, commentary by historians Robert S. Bader and Bill Marx on Monkey Business, commentary by historians Leonard Maltin and Bader on Duck Soup, commentary on Animal Crackers with historian Jeffrey Vance, and commentary on Horse Feathers by film critic F.X. Feeney. Additional extras are possible, but are TBA. Note that this title has NOT yet been officially announced by Universal, but we expect that official word very soon.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned...
