All right, after months of “we knew it was coming” to last week’s early studio leak that was quickly pulled back, Universal has finally made it official: Steven Spielberg’s Jaws is coming to 4K Ultra HD on 6/2 in honor of the film’s 45th anniversary. The package will include the film on 4K and Blu-ray with a Digital code, lenticular packaging and a 44-page booklet with introductions, rare photos, storyboards and more from the archives.

Both the 4K UHD disc and the Blu-ray will include The Making of Jaws, The Shark Is Still Working: The Impact & Legacy of Jaws, Jaws: The Restoration, deleted Scenes and outtakes, From the Set, and the film’s theatrical trailer. The Blu-ray will add storyboards, production photos, Marketing Jaws, and The Jaws Phenomenon.

The 4K Ultra HD disc will also include HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision high dynamic range, along with Dolby Atmos audio. Additional audio options will include DTS and Dolby Digital 2.0 mono. And yes, that IS correct: There’s no DTS-X. Also, our sources tell us that the Atmos mix is a 12-channel expansion of the revisionist 7.1 mix done in 2013. The good news is that the original mono options are included. You can see the cover artwork above left and also below. [Read on here...]

Before we continue, we’ve got two more new Blu-ray reviews for you to enjoy today, including Tim’s look at CBS/Paramount’s Police Squad!: The Complete Series and Dennis’ take on George Cukor’s Love Among the Ruins (1975) from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Back to release news... Acorn DVD has set AMC’s Humans: Complete Collection for release on Blu-ray on 5/5, including all  three seasons of the British android-themed science fiction series on 6 discs, with two and a half hours of bonus content.

Also coming from Acorn on 5/19 is The Brokenwood Mysteries: Series 6, followed by Agatha Raisin: Series 3 on 5/26.

Lionsgate has set I Still Believe for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/5.

For those of you in the UK, Eureka! has set Billy Wilder’s A Foreign Affair for release on Blu-ray on June 22 as part of their Masters of Cinema line-up.

And in other news, San Diego Comic Con has official been cancelled for the first time in its 50-year history due to the coronavirus pandemic. You can read more here.

Meanwhile, the pandemic has seen a 38% increase in “transactional entertainment spending” as a result of so many people staying at home. Amazingly, that includes both digital spending and physical media. You can read more on that here at Media Play News.

And finally, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the passing recently of the Tony Award-winning actor Brian Dennehy, known to film fans for his work on First Blood, Cocoon, and Gorky Park among many others. He died of cancer at age 81. You can read more here at The New York Times.

Sadly, we must also tip our hats in honor of the passing of the great cinematographer Allen Daviau, whose work include Steven Spielberg’s E.T., The Color Purple, and Empire of the Sun, as well as Bugsy, Avalon, Defending Your Life and many others. Daviau was 77, and passed due to complications from the coronavirus. Again, you can read more here at The New York Times.
