Finally today, news has broken that Amazon has finally closed its $8.5 billion deal to acquire MGM. Per Amazon today: “The storied, nearly century-old studio—with more than 4,000 film titles, 17,000 TV episodes, 180 Academy Awards, and 100 Emmy Awards—will complement Prime Video and Amazon Studios’ work in delivering a diverse offering of entertainment choices to customers.” What’s known at this moment is that Amazon is leaving the studio’s theatrical production slate alone for now, they do not plan to make all MGM content exclusive to Prime Video, and there are no changes anticipated to the Bond franchise. What we don’t yet know is what this might mean for the studio’s physical media plans going forward. Will MGM continue to support physical media? We think so. But could Amazon see more retailer-exclusive disc releases? Possible, but unknown at this time. Anyway, you can read more on this today here at Variety and Deadline.
All right, we’ll leave you with a look at the final cover artwork for all of Universal’s new Hitchcock: Volume 2 4K titles. All are now available for pre-order on Amazon.com by clicking on the covers...
