The big news today is that 20th Century Fox has announced an Independence Day: 20th Anniversary Edition for release on 5/3, in regular 2-disc BD (SRP $19.99) and Attacker Edition Gift Set BD (SRP $69.99) versions. Each will contain both the restored Theatrical and Extended cuts, plus the 30-minute Independence Day: A Legacy Surging Forward documentary and more. The Attacker Gift Set will include the 2-disc BD plus a special booklet and a statuette/miniature of the Alien Attacker spacecraft from the film. Our sources confirm that a 4K Ultra HD release of the film is also soon to be announced. There will also be a DVD release of the Theatrical cut only, and a Digital HD release that include the Extended cut plus the 30-minute documentary.
Here’s something interesting: Mill Creek Entertainment has licensed a number of Universal TV properties for release on Blu-ray Disc, beginning with Airwolf: The Complete Series on 5/3 (14 discs, SRP $99.98). Our sources suggest that Knight Rider, Miami Vice, SeaQuest DSV, Quantum Leap, and even Friday Night Lights are all possible releases going forward.
Also today, Lionsgate is releasing Dirty Grandpa on Unrated Blu-ray and DVD on 5/17, starring Robert De Niro and Zac Efron.
Lionsgate has also set The Witch for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/17.
Finally, the BBC has set the nature documentary Life Story for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/29, narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
And in a quick update, Disney has posted a teaser of the new feature-length The Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey documentary (that will be included on the upcoming Blu-ray of The Force Awakens due on 4/5) on YouTube. Here it is...
