All right, we’re starting off with this...

You can get Fox’s outstanding Alien Anthology Blu-ray box set today on (here at this link) for just $20. That’s a whopping 67% off the SRP, so act fast. This is one of the best box sets ever produced, with all four Alien films remastered in stunning HD quality (including the Alien 3: Restored Workprint Version) on 6 discs, with a massive bounty of extras (including two full discs of bonus content) all created by our old friend Charles de Lauzirika. Those documentaries alone are worth dropping $20 for this package, so if you haven’t picked up a copy yet... now’s the time!

I should add here that if you’re waiting for Fox to release a 4K upgraded Alien Anthology box set, you’re going to be waiting a while. Only the original Alien is being released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in 2019. There may be a new Alien box set that includes the Anthology contents on Blu-ray along with Alien, Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant in 4K. We’ve seen artwork packaging artwork circulating (from But if you already have Prometheus and Alien: Covenant in 4K, your smartest best at this point is to buy the new Alien 4K release when it arrives and pick up the Anthology for $20 ASAP. By the way, on a related note... SpaceX is getting ready to launch their new CrewDragon spacecraft to the International Space Station for the first time in the wee early hours of Saturday morning. This is the first of two demo/test flights and this first one will not carry astronauts. However, it will be carrying a spacesuited mannequin to test launch loads on eventual human passengers. Here’s why this is relevant: SpaceX’s Hans Koenigsmann just revealed on NASA TV that the spacesuited mannequin that will be riding on Saturday morning’s mission is called “Ripley” in honor of Alien and Sigourney Weaver. Nice touch, SpaceX.

Here at The Bits today, we have four new Blu-ray reviews for you to enjoy, including Tim’s look at The Vengeance of She (1968) from Scream Factory, Jack the Ripper (1959) from Severin Films, and Stanley Kramer’s R.P.M. (1970) from Powerhouse/Indicator, as well as David’s look at Tailspin Tommy in the Great Air Mystery (1935) from VCI and MVD.

I’m also pleased to say that I’ve finally gotten my Oppo UDP-203 4K player back from servicing! So I will be resuming 4K UHD Blu-ray reviews over the weekend, beginning with Disney’s Captain America: The First Avenger. By the way, I’m also pleased to say that Oppo customer service remains as terrific as ever. From the time I sent the player to the time I had it back good as new, I only had to wait about a week. (And to Oppo: Thanks, guys!)

Also here at The Bits today, our own Bud Elder has turned in a great new View from the Cheap Seats column in which he remembers his friend Burt Reynolds. Bud also runs down the latest in classic and indie Blu-ray and DVD releases.
