Now then, in release news today... it seems that Warner Home Video has quietly solicited The Iron Giant: Signature Edition for DVD only release on 2/16. The single disc DVD (SRP $12.97) will include two version of the film (the 2015 Signature Edition and the original 1999 Theatrical Edition), multiple audio commentaries (by director Brad Bird, head of animation Tony Fucile, story department head Jeff Lynch and giant animation supervisor Steven Markowski), The Making of The Iron Giant special, deleted scenes, original opening sequences, multiple featurettes (covering score, character design, storyboards, and animation), a motion gallery, the new Signature Edition trailer, and more. There’s no Blu-ray listed for that date yet, but we know from director Brad Bird that one is coming. We’re told by studio sources to look for the Blu-ray release to follow later in 2016, so it is definitely coming. You’ll just have to be patient a while longer.
Anchor Bay and the Weinstein Company have set Carol for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/15, with the digital release set for 3/4. Extras will include a Behind the Scenes gallery and video of a Q&A with the cast and filmmakers.
Scream Factory has added a Destroyer/Edge of Sanity double feature Blu-ray for release on 4/12.
Shout! has set The Bold Ones: The New Doctors – The Complete Series for DVD release on 3/1.
This is pretty great: PBS Distribution has announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of Ken Burns’ Jackie Robinson on 4/12, the day after it finishes airing on PBS.
PBS has also set Grantchester: Season 2 for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/14.
FilmRise has announced its Janis: Little Girl Blue documentary for release on 5/4.
Universal has set Sisters for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/15, with digital HD due on 3/1. Extras on both disc versions will include deleted and extended scenes, a gag reel, The Improvorama, and audio commentary (with director Jason Moore, star/producer Tina Fey, star/executive Producer Amy Poehler, and writer Paula Pell). To this, the Blu-ray will exclusively add 7 featurettes (How to Throw a Party, Grown-Up Parties Suck, The Alex Chronicles, The Kate and Pazuzu Chronicles, A Teen Movie... for Adults, The Original Sister, and Pool Collapse Visual Effects).
Universal has also set an American Pie Unrated 4-Movie Collection for Blu-ray release on 4/12. This might be new. Universal has released an American Pie 4-Movie Collection on BD previously, but I don’t believe they’ve released the Unrated editions in a 4-pack on Blu (they have done so on DVD). [Editor’s Note: The previous BD did include the Unrated editions, so barring new extras this is simply a re-issue. Thanks to Bits reader Daniel L. for the heads-up.]
Monarch will release The Girl in the Book on DVD only on 2/23.
Magnolia has set the 2015 SXSW Audience Award nominee Entertainment for Blu-ray and DVD release on 2/23.
Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove: The Final Season has been set for DVD and digital release on 3/15 by Cinedigm.
And Olive Films has announced their April slate of Blu-ray and DVD titles, which is due on 4/19 and is set to include Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street (1972 – DVD/BD), Betrayed (1988 – BD), Try and Get Me (1950 – DVD/BD), The Fool (2014 – DVD/BD), The Major (2013 – DVD/BD), Sibling Rivalry (1990 – BD), Fatal Beauty (1987 – BD), Uptown Girls (2003 – BD), What’s the Worst That Could Happen? (2001 – DVD/BD), and Unlikely Heroes (2014 – DVD/BD).
Here’s a look at a little more new Blu-ray cover artwork, with clickable Amazon.com pre-order links if available...
