CES 2016 – 4K UHD news from the LG & Panasonic press events

CES 2016 continues in Las Vegas today with the official Press Day, during which some of the biggest CE manufacturers stage elaborate press events to highlight the products and services they play to announce at the convention.  [Read on here…]

Here’s a quick roundup of the latest 4K UHD-related news highlights from Press Day at CES 2016.

LG press conference

  • LG confirms that the new 4K UHD displays it’s introducing this week at CES 2016 are designed to exceed the specifications set for Ultra HD Premium by the UHD Alliance and will be among the first displays to be Ultra HD Premium certified.
  • Displays include: OLED77G6P, OLED65E6P, OLED65B6P, OLED65C6P, 98UH9800, 86UH9500, 65UH9500, 75UH8500, 65UH8500, 65UH7700, 65UH7500, 65UH6550, 55UH6550, and 43UH6500.

Panasonic press conference

  • Panasonic confirms it will be launching a 4K UHD Blu-ray BD player here in the US this year. It will be THX certified.
  • Panasonic’s existing 4K OLED UHD Display – the TX-65CZ950 – is HDR compatible and THX certified.
  • Panasonic is launching new 4K UHD Displays for 2016 – the DX900 Series – that will be the world’s first TV to be officially certified Ultra HD Premium.
  • On the industry front, Panasonic has also launched the Panasonic “Freeze-Ray” Optical Data Archive solution based on Blu-ray Disc for storing and archiving large amounts of data while still ensuring its accessibility when needed. Facebook has been a testing partner in the project.
