“Yes, it’s true, & I am UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED to announce that, after a couple of years of me begging and pleading, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be coming to home video in 4K UltraHD. It will be the FIRST Disney release to be released this way.” [Read on here...]

Fox’s Alien: Covenant is due on BD, DVD & 4K Ultra HD on 8/15
This is just a quick heads-up to all of you Blu-ray and 4K fans out there…
Retail sources are now reporting an 8/15 street date for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD. This, of course, also means that Scott’s Prometheus is due on 4K Ultra HD from Fox on that same day. Indeed, both titles are now available for pre-order on Amazon.com now. Click here to pre-order Alien: Covenant 4K and Blu-ray and here for Prometheus 4K. We’re waiting on final cover artwork and the official studio announcement, but 8/15 does appear to be the official street date.
Just FYI. Stay tuned…

Star Wars Rebels: S3, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword & a DC Universe Original Movies: 10th Anniversary BD set
All right, we have a few new reviews for you today...
Tim has checked in with his looks at Shout! Factory’s Road House: Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray and Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume V on DVD, as well as Vinegar Syndrome’s Nurse Sherri, and Severin Films’ Blackenstein, classics of the grindhouse and blaxploitation genres respectively, both newly released on Blu-ray.
Also, I’ve posted a review of Lionsgate’s Power Rangers on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. You may or may not be a fan of the film, but the disc features reference quality full 4K video (with Dolby Vision HDR) and Dolby Atmos audio. It also has an epic 140-minute making of documentary produced by our old friend Cliff Stephenson. It’s well worth a look if you’re a fan of the 4K format. And I’m working on more 4K reviews this afternoon, so watch for those to be posted tonight and tomorrow here on The Bits. [Read on here…]

Warner Bros Home Entertainment sets Blade Runner: The Final Cut for 4K Ultra HD release on 9/5
All right, we’ve got big news for you today. We’ve been saying this was coming for quite a while now here at The Bits, given that this is the film’s 35th anniversary year and that its long-awaited sequel was coming soon to theaters, but Warner Bros Home Entertainment has finally made it official: Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner: The Final Cut is coming to the 4K Ultra HD format on 9/5.
The Ultra HD release will include the previous Blu-ray edition (you can read our epic and in-depth review of that package here) in addition to the 4K disc, with its 7+ hours of bonus features (we’re waiting to see the exact disc configuration to determine if the alternate cuts will be included or if it’s just The Final Cut with extras), as well as a digital copy. The audio will be Dolby Atmos. There’s no word whether Dolby Vision HDR is included or not yet (there was no mention of it in the press release). The package will sell for an SRP of $44.95. Warner celebrates Hanna-Barbera’s 60th with a Diamond Collection DVD rebrand, plus Chuck, Black Sails: S4 & more
Here at the site today, Tim’s got another new Blu-ray review for you: A look at The Lawnmower Man: Collector’s Edition from Scream Factory. The disc includes both versions of the film plus some very nice extras, so do give it a look.
In announcement news today, Warner Bros Home Entertainment has just unveiled their new Hanna-Barbera Diamond Collection line of DVD and digital releases, set to include a wave of “over 70 seasons of the most popular animated titles of the 50s, 60s and 70s, many of which have not been released on DVD and digital until now.” Some of these rebranded DVD packages have been available previously, including the likes of The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, and Yogi Bear, with more set to come through December of this year. All of this is being done to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera’s iconic animation studio. The WB press release doesn’t really indicate what may be coming that hasn’t yet been released, but I guess we’ll have to watch for announcements in the months ahead. [Read on here…]

To kick things off today here at The Bits, we start with some daily site business: Tim has turned in his thoughts on Shout! Factory’s new Blu-ray release of Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie. It’s certainly worth a look if you’re a fan of the film.
Also here at The Bits today, we’ve got the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section, featuring all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, whenever you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking through any one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here at the site and we really do appreciate it.

I’m trying to be a little more active there, as it’s often a better way to communicate with you guys than e-mail. Social media is also usually the first place I share new BD/4K reviews and breaking industry news before it gets written up into a Bits post. Plus, you’ll get my observations on other areas of interest. Hope to see you there! [Read on here…]
