My apologies, but this flu I’ve come down with has gotten worse rather than better today. So I’ve got a release news update for you but that’s about it. Still, there’s definitely some good news to report.

First up, Kino Lorber has set Alfred Hitchcock’s Lifeboat (1944) for Blu-ray release on 3/7. Extras will include audio commentary by film historian Tim Lucas, audio commentary by film professor Drew Casper, The Making of Lifeboat documentary, an animated montage of images, and reversible cover art (the front part of which you can see there on the left). Also coming to Blu-ray on 3/7 from the company is Richard Fleischer’s Compulsion (1959). [Read on here…]

Meanwhile, Kino has Jess Franco’s Dr. Orloff’s Monster (1964) set for release on Blu-ray on 2/7, along with No Highway in the Sky (1951), What a Way to Go (1964), The Sicilian Clan (1969), Prince of Foxes (1949), and a Buster Keaton double feature of The General and Three Ages. Also newly revealed as coming soon by Kino are Tobor the Great (1954), Four Faces West (1948), and Driftwood (1947).

Also today, Paramount has set Jack Reacher: Never Go Back for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release on 1/31.

Lionsgate has just announced the next title in their Vestron Video Collector’s Series, which is Tibor Takács’ The Gate (1987). It’s due on Blu-ray on 2/28.

Lionsgate has also set Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge for Blu-ray/DVD Combo release on 2/21.

Sony is releasing Spanglish as a Choice Collection MOD Blu-ray release on 1/10. It’s worth noting The Triplets of Belleville, which we mentioned yesterday, will also be a Choice Collection MOD title that same day.

Full Moon Features has set H.P. Lovecraft’s Lurking Fear for Blu-ray release on 4/11.

Scorpion Releasing is working on a new Blu-ray release of Humongous (1982).

Shout! Factory has announced What’s the Matter with Helen? for Blu-ray release on 3/28. Shout! has also set Christophe Gans’ Beauty and the Beast, starring Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux, for Blu-ray release on 2/21.

Scream Factory, meanwhile, is working on the early 2017 Blu-ray release of The Vampire (1957), I Bury the Living (1958), Invasion of the Bee Girls (1973), The Naked Cage (1986), and Contamination .7 (1993).

Broad Green Pictures will release Bad Santa 2 on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/21.

And Universal will release Frank & Lola, starring Michael Shannon and Imogen Poots, on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/7.

Also today, there are a number of yet-to-be-announced Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K titles available for pre-order on Amazon.com right now, including Warner’s Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them (BD, 3D, DVD, 4K), Universal’s Nocturnal Animals (BD, DVD), Sony’s Passengers (BD, DVD, 4K) and Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (BD, DVD, 4K), and Paramount’s Allied (BD, DVD, 4K) and Office Christmas Party (BD, DVD). If you go looking for them on Amazon, please click on the Amazon button above (or here), as anything you pre-order after clicking through our links helps to support our work here at The Bits and it really does make a huge difference in allowing us to keep the site going. We appreciate it!

Speaking of which, our own Russell Hammond has just posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section here at The Bits, featuring all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K cover artwork and pre-order links.

Finally today, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is still not officially available for pre-order yet on Amazon, but it does appear to be up on Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart. No details are yet available about possible SKUs and configurations.

All right, that’s all for now. I’ll be back tomorrow, hopefully feeling better and with a new special feature column and some more disc reviews for you too.

Stay tuned…
