Well… the response to my Star Trek and Blu-ray 4K columns of the past couple days has been very positive and positively overwhelming! I’ve gotten tons of e-mails and messages about both topics and I’m going to do my best to get back to everyone but it might take a few days.

Meanwhile today, the esteemed Dr. Jahnke has reviewed a classic and iconic David Lynch film on Blu-ray from Criterion… the long-awaited Eraserhead. Some of you longtime readers might recall that, ten or fifteen years ago, there was talk of the film coming to Criterion on DVD, but it failed to materialize. It’s now part of the Collection at least and it sounds as if they’ve really hit it out of the park. Don’t miss it.  [Read on here…]

Our own Tim Salmons has also turned in a Blu-ray review of another Charles Bronson anti-heroic turn from the 1970s… Mr. Majestyk, now available from Kino Lorber.

In announcement news today, BBC Home Entertainment has set Doctor Who: The Complete Eighth Series for Blu-ray and DVD release on 12/9 (SRP $99.98 and $79.98).

Scream Factory has set the Dolls: Collector’s Edition for Blu-ray release on 11/11 (SRP $29.93). Extras will include the all-new Toys of Terror: The Making of Dolls documentary (with director Stuart Gordon, producer Brian Yuzna, stars Carolyn Purdy-Gordon, Ian Patrick Williams, executive producer Charles Band, and special make-Up effects artists Gabe Bartalos, and John Vulich and more), audio commentary (with director Stuart Gordon and writer Ed Naha), audio commentary (with cast members Stephen Lee, Ian Patrick Williams, Carolyn Purdy Gordon and Carrie Lorraine), a storyboard-to-film comparison, a photo gallery, and the theatrical trailer.

Scream has also set The Doctor and the Devils for Blu-ray release on 11/14. Extras are TBA.

Shout! Factory has set Hart to Hart: The Complete Third Season for DVD only release on 12/9.

Icarus Films has set Chris Marker’s Level Five for DVD and digital release on 10/7. Looking forward to that one – should be interesting.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has set Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort for Blu-ray and DVD release on 10/21.

Millennium Films will release Are You Here, starring Amy Poehler, Owen Wilson, and Zach Galifianakis, on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/30.

Cartoon Network and WHV have set Adventure Time: The Complete Fourth Season on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/7.

FUNimation is releasing Ghost in the Shell: Arise Borders 1 & 2 on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/21.

CBS Home Entertainment has set Walker, Texas Ranger: The Reunion for DVD release on 9/30, followed by the Perry Mason Movie Collection: Volume 4 (includes The Case of the Glass Coffin, The Case of the Fatal Fashion, The Case of the Fatal Framing, The Case of the Reckless Romeo, The Case of the Heartbroken Bride, and The Case of the Skin-Deep Scandal) on DVD 10/7.

Phase 4 Films has set A Merry Friggin’ Christmas for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/25 (SRP $19.99), starring Joel McHale and Robin Williams.

Carlotta Films will release Leos Carax’s Boy Meets Girl on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/18.

Image will release Drive Hard, starring John Cusack and Thomas Jane, on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/11.

And for music fans, Eagle Rock Entertainment has set Genesis: Three Sides Live for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/4 (SRP $19.98 and $14.98). The concert was shot on 16mm film in 1981, during the band’s Abacab tour of North America. It’s previously only been available in the limited edition The Movie Box 1981-2007 set.

Finally today, MGM has revealed the Blu-ray and DVD re-release (this past Tuesday – 9/9) of 13 classic horror titles, repeat with new cover artwork created by the Canadian art group Skuzzles (visit their website here). Titles include: Jeepers Creepers, Child’s Play, Misery, The Last House on the Left, The Return of the Living Dead, The Amityville Horror, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Carrie, The Silence of the Lambs, Species, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and Teen Wolf. You can see a few of these below.

All right, we’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for Level Five, Doctor Who, and four of the MGM titles we just mentioned (we’ll add the MGM order links as soon as we can find them – they don’t appear to be up on Amazon yet)…

Level Five (DVD)    Doctor Who: The Complete Eighth Season (Blu-ray Disc)    Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Blu-ray Disc)

The Return of the Living Dead (Blu-ray Disc)    Teen Wolf (Blu-ray Disc)    Silence of the Lambs (Blu-ray Disc)

Stay tuned...
