All right, we have just a couple of quick updates for you here at The Bits today, but first we have a new disc review...

Stephen has taken a look at Stephen Sommers’ G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) as newly-released on 4K Ultra HD by Paramount. Sounds like it’s a modest but decent upgrade over the existing Blu-ray, so do give it a look if you’re a fan.

Now then, in terms of announcement news, Lionsgate has set writer-director Janicza Bravo’s Zola for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 9/14. Extras will include audio commentary with Bravo and editor Joi McMillon, the Y’all Wanna Hear a Story: Making Zola featurette, and deleted scenes with optional audio commentary.

Lionsgate will also release Twist on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/28. The film stars Lena Headey and Michael Caine. Extras will include The Artful Dodger: Twist’s Underworld featurette. [Read on here...]

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just set the re-imagined Kung Fu: The Complete First Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/2. You’ll get all 13 episodes, along with deleted scenes and the Bond of Honor featurette.

Shout! Factory Kids and StudioCanal have set the animated Little Vampire for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/5. The Digital release is expected on 9/21. The film is based on directed by Joann Sfar, based upon his own Petit Vampire graphic novels.

Well Go USA has just set director Cong Cai’s God of War II for release on Blu-ray and Digital on 9/17.

For fans of classic film noir, Cinedigm and The Film Detective will release Paul Guilfoyle’s A Life at Stake (1955) on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/7. The film stars Angela Lansbury and Keith Andes.

RLJE Films and Shudder will release the shark attack thriller Great White on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/7. They also have Slaxx coming on VOD, Digital and DVD that same day.

And Saban Films has set Last Man Down for release on Digital and On Demand on 10/19.

On the 4K Ultra HD front, our retail sources have checked in with a likely street date for Disney’s live-action Cruella—look for it to arrive on disc on 9/21.

Target has also just listed another 4K Ultra HD catalog title we mentioned a while back: Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) from Paramount. Our sources tell us to expect the disc to street on 9/7, alongside a new reissue of the previous Blu-ray edition.

And as many anime fans will know, GKids announced back in October of last year that they’d acquired the theatrical, home video, and electronic sell-through rights to Hideaki Anno’s Neon Genesis Evangelion (formerly held by ADV Films). Well, they’ve just launched an online countdown to the opening of pre-orders on their forthcoming Ultimate Edition Blu-ray releases, which are set to begin on 8/19. Look for these to include the original 26-episode TV series Neon Genesis Evangelion, as well as the films Evangelion: Death(True)2 and The End of Evangelion. You can check out the countdown page here.

Finally today, given the current difficult economic times of this past couple of years (which have unfortunately crushed online advertising and affiliate sales income), we ask that if you believe in and appreciate the work we do here at The Digital Bits, please consider making a donation to the site via PayPal (click here or the button below). Every little bit makes a difference in terms of helping us to keep the site going strong, and we really do appreciate it very much. And thank you again to every single one of you who have donated in the past, and to all those of you who support our work in other ways. We’re very grateful to have all of you as readers.
