Today’s update is going to be a quick one, as business outside of the Matrix calls this afternoon. Nevertheless, we will have Russell Hammond’s weekly Release Dates & Artwork section update posted shortly, so be sure to stay tuned for that.

In release news today, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has set Night at the Museum 3 for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/10. Details to follow.  [Read on here…]

Sony Pictures would like you all to know that there’s been a street date for their newly-announced Foxcatcher... sort of. The disc versions are both still due on 3/3, but the digital HD release has moved from 2/20 to 3/3 as well.

Meanwhile, our friends at the Warner Archive Collection have released another great batch of MOD DVD titles this week, including “Sheer Cinema Pleasures” titles and classic Shirley Temple too! The former includes Born Reckless (1958), White Comanche (1968 – Star Trek’s William Shatner plays twins in this one), and The Wild Affair (1963), while the latter includes Kathleen (1941), Honeymoon (1947), and Adventure in Baltimore (1949). Also today, Universal 1440 Entertainment and RZA are releasing The Man with the Iron Fists 2 on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/14. Extras will include deleted scenes, audio commentary with director Roel Reiné and executive producer and star RZA, and the Chi Warriors: The Making of Man with the Iron Fists 2 documentary. You can see the cover artwork below.

And hey, what do you know? Universal Studios Home Entertainment is releasing a pair of fine catalog sci-fi films on Blu-ray on 4/7, including Journey to the Far Side of the Sun and Silent Running! The latter will include audio commentary with Bruce Dern and director Douglas Trumbull, 4 featurettes (The Making of Silent Running, Silent Running by Douglas Trumbull, A Conversation with Bruce Dern, and Douglas Trumbull: Then and Now), and the theatrical trailer.

Speaking of Universal, I’ve asked them if they have any plans to release the classic 70s TV series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century on Blu-ray anytime soon. They currently do not, but seemed pleased to hear that there’s interest. I suggested perhaps a BD release of the pilot feature film first to test that interest. Would you guys buy Buck Rogers on Blu-ray if Universal were to step up? Sound off on our Bits Facebook page and let the studio know!
