In announcement news today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just set Spike Lee’s School Daze for release on Blu-ray for the first time ever on 11/13, in honor of the film’s 30th anniversary. All the previous DVD features will carry over, including featurettes, music videos, and a pair of audio commentaries with Lee and the cast. You’ll also get an all-new Q&A “with Spike Lee and select cast and crew members, with some special guests” shot just for this release. You can see the cover artwork above left.

Meanwhile, Lionsgate has set Juliet, Naked for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/13, with the Digital release expected on 10/30. The film stars Ethan Hawke and Rose Byrne. They also have Little Italy coming to Blu-ray and Digital on 11/20, starring Emma Roberts and Hayden Christensen.

Twilight Time’s October Blu-ray slate (due on 10/16) will include The Adventures of Hajji Baba (1954), Black Widow (1954), Short Night of Glass Dolls (1971), and Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960). Pre-orders open on 10/3 at 1 PM Pacific on Screen Archives Entertainment and Twilight Time Movies.

Amazon has just listed the street date for Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD as 12/4, just as we expected. Meanwhile, Best Buy has listed Jonathan Demme’s Philadelphia in 4K from Sony for 11/27. We expect official announcements on both titles very soon.

Our friends over at Epic Pictures’ Dread Presents have just announced their latest three Blu-ray releases in a video on Facebook and you can watch it here. They’re curated double-feature releases with plenty of special edition materials. Look for Zombiology/Vidar the Vampire, #Screamers/The Monster Project, and Imitation Girl/Nina Forever. Each comes with reversible cover artwork.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has revealed that Delbert Mann’s Kidnapped (1971) is coming to Blu-ray and DVD in 2019. They’re also working on a new Blu-ray edition of Mad Dog and Glory (1993).

Finally, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of legendary film producer Gary Kurtz, whose credits include Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, American Graffiti, The Dark Crystal and other films. A generation of films fans owe him a debt. You can read more here and here.

Gary Kurtz RIP

Stay tuned...
