A Man Called Otto, Disney’s Pirates 4K box in the UK, His Dark Materials: S3, Plane & ClassicFlix’s Little Rascals Bonus disc & more

While we’re waiting for Warner Bros. to announce their Superman: 5-Film Collection 4K release, which we expect to happen anytime now, we’ve got some more release news for you today and a couple new disc reviews as well.

Starting with the reviews, Stephen has taken a look at Patrice Leconte’s Monsieur Hire (1989) on Blu-ray from Cohen Film Collection.

Stephen has also reviewed Dale Fabrigar’s They Crawl Beneath (2022) on Blu-ray from Well Go USA Entertainment.

Now then, back on the topic of Superman 4K for a moment, it’s starting to look as if there will not be 4K singles of the films in the new collection here in the States, but rather simply the box set in deluxe Steelbook and standard Amaray packaging (you can see the Amazon US listings here and here). There are 4K singles available in the UK if you want them (we have them linked in our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits now, but curiously not Superman: The Movie—just the sequels—which could indicate that the new remaster of Superman: The Movie may be exclusive to the box set for a while. We’ll have to wait for Warner’s official press release to be sure.

As I said, that could drop at anytime, so we’ll be sure to post all the details when it arrives. [Read on here...]

Now then, speaking of the UK, it looks like Disney is going to be releasing their Pirates of the Caribbean: 5-Film 4K Ultra HD Collection in the UK on March 27. This includes The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, On Stranger Tides, and Salazar’s Revenge on both Blu-ray and 4K UHD. The Blu-rays are almost certainly region locked, but the 4Ks should play just fine on US players. Here’s what the set looks like, and you can click on the image to pre-order it on Amazon UK...

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially set Marc Foster’s A Man Called Otto for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/14, with the Digital version expected on 2/28. Extras will include Breaking the Rules: Making A Man Called Otto, In the Studio with Rita Wilson & Sebastián Yatra, their ‘Til You’re Home music video, and a deleted scene. You can see the cover artwork above left and also below.

Here’s some good news for fans of ClassicFlix’s The Little Rascals Blu-rays: The company is doing another production run of the Bonus Disc from their Little Rascals: The Complete Collection Centennial Edition Blu-ray set. So if you’ve been purchasing all of the individual volumes and you’re missing only the Bonus Disc, you can now order it here while supplies last. But be sure to act fast if you want it, because it’s likely to sell out quickly. The discs are expected to ship on 4/18.

Have any of you been watching the BBC and HBO’s His Dark Materials? Well, His Dark Materials: The Complete Third Season officially arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/25 from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. It includes the final 8 episodes of the series, plus special features. Note that there will also be a His Dark Materials: The Complete Series DVD box set, but so far no Blu-ray or 4K set. You can see the cover artwork below. Note that this title has already been released on Blu-ray in the UK.

Meanwhile, Lionsgate has set Seriously Red for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/21.

Lionsgate will also release Plane on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital, and 4K Ultra HD on 3/28. Extras will include a trio of featurettes (This Is Your Captain, Plane Clothes, and Brace for Turbulence).

And finally this morning, Imprint Films is getting ready to reveal their May slate of Blu-ray titles (on Friday), which we expect to include John Ford’s The Long Voyage Home (1940), Lesley Selander’s The Catman of Paris (1946), Elliott Nugent’s The Great Gatsby (1949), Robert Mulligan’s The Spiral Road (1962), Harvey Hart’s Bus Riley’s Back in Town (1965), and Jules Dassin’s Up Tight (1968).
