HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Set a course for the final frontier as the newly restored Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director’s Edition arrives September 6, 2022 on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with a bonus Blu-ray Disc filled with new and legacy special features from Paramount Home Entertainment. The film will also be released in a Limited-Edition Collector’s Set entitled The Complete Adventure, which includes the new Director’s Edition, the theatrical cut, and a special longer cut all on 4K Ultra HD along with special features on Blu-ray. Morning, everyone! We expect Paramount’s official announcement of the next wave of Star Trek Original Series films in 4K Ultra HD to drop at any time now, but there’s been an early leak of cover art that we thought worth sharing with you beforehand.

A couple of retailers have shared this artwork this morning (including our friends at HD Movie Source, who are always on the money), so it looks like this could be the final cover art for the forthcoming Star Trek Original Series films in 4K.

If the leak is correct, it means that Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country will indeed include both the original Theatrical Version and Nicholas Meyer’s much-loved 113-minute Director’s Cut as well. The cut is 3 minutes longer, has a few scene extensions here and there, and some of the scenes are slightly re-edited. Added material includes Admiral Cartwright and Colonel West briefing the Federation President on their rescue plan, as well as Spock and Scott inspecting the torpedo bay. [Read on here...]

All right, we’ve got a couple of things to note today...

First up, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set Shameless: The Complete Tenth Season for DVD only release on 5/12. You’ll get all 12 episodes plus deleted scenes for just $22.99.

While we’re talking Warner Bros, our friends at the Warner Archive have just announced their May Blu-ray slate, which is set to include Michael Curtiz’s Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933), Robert Mulligan’s Inside Daisy Clover (1966), and Lucifer: The Complete Fourth Season on 5/12, followed by Gregory Nava’s Selena (1997) and Peter Tewksbury’s Sunday in New York (1964) on 5/19, and Vincente Minnelli’s The Reluctant Debutante (1958) on 5/26. All right, we’ve got a couple things to report today...

First up, NBCUniversal’s Fandango service is going to purchase Vudu from Walmart, according to reports in the trades today (see this link at Variety). This is interesting and it doesn’t surprise me. I expect there will be lots of consolidation in the Digital space in the months and years ahead, and I also expect every major studio to try and grow their own footprint in the digital space or to team up with others who have. And of course the Digital category includes not just streaming/subscription services but transactional purchases too. So it makes a lot of sense.
