Now then... Star Wars 4K! Yes, we’ve got a little more for you. The Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 4K/Blu-ray box set is now available for pre-order on Best Buy here in the States. This 4K/BD set is also available for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk, but without the elaborate packaging. Also now available for pre-order at Best Buy, Target, and elsewhere (in wide release and retail excusive packaging) is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Blu-ray and 4K. The street date for both is listed as TBA, but as we know from retail sources it’s likely to be 3/31/2020.
There are also a couple of major new announcements to mention...
Paramount has officially set Tim Miller’s Terminator: Dark Fate for release on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 1/28, with the Digital release due on 1/14. Extras will include deleted and extended scenes, and 4 featurettes (A Legend Reforged, World Builders, Dam Busters: The Final Showdown, and VFX Breakdown: The Dragonfly). The 4K release will also include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. Unfortunately, Paramount has made some significant extras a Digital exclusive only, including audio commentary by director Tim Miller and editor Julian Clarke, deleted scenes with commentary by Miller, 3 pre-viz sequences (Factory Fight, Air Battle to Humvee Falling, and Humvee Dam), and 2 more featurettes (Creating a New Threat and Future Tech). UGH.
Also, Warner Bros. has just set Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 2/4, with the Digital release expected on 1/21. The Blu-ray versions of the film will include a Director’s Cut of the film with 30 minutes of additional footage. The 4K will offer Dolby Vision and HDR10+ HDR, along with Dolby Atmos audio. Extras on the Blu-rays will include 3 featurettes (Return to the Overlook, The Making of Doctor Sleep: A New Vision, and From Shining to Sleep).
We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.
And speaking of Warner Bros., you can now purchase the recently-ended Watchmen: Season One digitally. There’s no word yet of a physical release (Blu-ray, 4K, or both), but there’s no doubt one on the way. Watch for an official announcement soon.
There are more new catalog announcements to go over as well, but in order to get that Empire Strikes Back gallery up today, we’ll cover those on Monday.
One last note: Our own Tim Salmons has been posting a ton of new and vintage movie trailers, TV spots and other film-related clips on his YouTube channel—do give it a look. I think you find some cool and rare surprises on there.
Here’s a look at the cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above…
Stay tuned for that Empire gallery and have a great weekend!
