Lionsgate has finally set a wide release of Emile Ardolino’s Dirty Dancing (1987) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 8/23. This will be the same disc that was previously a Best Buy exclusive (reviewed here on The Bits), simply in standard Amaray packaging rather than Steelbook. The title is now available for pre-order on Amazon and you can see the cover art above left and also below.
Lionsgate has also set Alex Garland’s latest horror film, Men, for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 8/9.
Scream Factory has confirmed the 8/16 4K Ultra HD release of Child’s Play 1-3. Each will include a new 4K scan of the original camera negative with Dolby Vision HDR, plus new Atmos mixes, and a TON of new and legacy special features (among them a host of retrospective interview featurettes). You can see the complete list of extras here.
Synapse Films (via the MVD Entertainment Group and in conjunction with Arrow Video) is releasing Dario Argento’s Tenebrae on 4K Ultra HD on 7/26 in honor of the film’s 40th anniversary. The 3-disc box set will include “hours of extras and, for the first time ever, the alternate U.S. theatrical cut, Unsane.” The title is strictly limited to 6000 copies only, so act fast if you want it.
VCI Entertainment has set a Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things: 50th Anniversary Edition for release on Blu-ray on 10/11. You can see the cover art below.
VCI will also release Lewis Milestone’s Rain in a new 90th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray on 9/13, mastered from a new 4K restoration of the original and uncut 94-minute version.
And RLJE Films and Shudder will release Hellbender on DVD and Digital on 7/26.
By the way, that new Steelbook 4K of Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) is also now available for pre-order on Amazon. Street date 10/4. Again, you’ll find the cover art and link below.
One more update on a title from yesterday: It appears that Best Buy will have an exclusive 4K Ultra HD release of The Bob’s Burgers Movie on 7/19, in addition to the wide release Blu-ray and DVD.
Also, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just announced the DVD only release of Lucifer: The Sixth & Final Season on 9/13. Extras will include deleted scenes and a gag reel.
And finally today, Warner Bros. has just announced that Zack Snyder’s Justice League will finally be available for Digital purchase on 7/19. The HBO Max Original title had previously been exclusive to the streaming service and also 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. The Digital version will include a trio of special features, including the Building a Scene and Road to Justice League featurettes, as well as the Justice is Gray black and white version of the film.
Here’s a look at the cover artwork for some of the titles mentioned above, with Amazon pre-order links if available...
