Speaking of DC animated titles, it looks like the DC Showcase title Batman: Death in the Family may be coming to Blu-ray and 4K as well in the months ahead, based on word from retail sources.
Now then... this isn’t officially announced yet, but there would appear to be a new Blu-ray and DVD release of Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto coming on 7/28. The distributor is listed simply as Samuel Goldwyn Films. A Touchstone title, Buena Vista released it back in 2007, but this is definitely not a Disney release (we believe Disney no longer owns the rights). In any case, you can see the Blu-ray cover artwork below.
Also, it appears that Sony is getting ready to release Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 on physical 4K Ultra HD. The title is already available in 4K Digital (as is Elysium), but Amazon Germany now has a pre-order listing for the disc here (at this link) with a rough street date of 7/7. We do expect a US release sooner rather than later.
Meanwhile, word is that Sony is also going to bring the comedy 21 Jump Street to 4K disc in Europe in September.
Pre-orders are also now open on Amazon US for the Blu-ray and 4K release of HBO’s Westworld – Season Three: The New World. Expected street date is October or November, but you can see the temp art below (with a pre-order link).
And finally today, Criterion has revealed that they’re working on a new Blu-ray release of Jim Jarmusch’s Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, mastered from a new 4K restoration. You can find that news here.
Here’s a look at the cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above (with Amazon links—just click on the covers)...
Stay tuned...
