Now then... in announcement news today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially set Simon McQuoid’s Mortal Kombat for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 7/13. The Digital version will debut on 6/11. Both the Blu-ray and 4K edition will include Dolby Atmos audio, while the 4K disc will feature HDR10 high dynamic range. Extras on both will include Deleted Scenes, 7 Anatomy of a Scene featurettes, 11 Mortal Kombat: Fan Favorite Characters featurettes, From Game to Screen: The Making of Mortal Kombat, Fight Koreography, and Into the Krypt: Easter Eggs of Mortal Kombat. You can see the cover artwork above left and also below.
Meanwhile, in addition to the new Laika Studios Edition Blu-rays of Coraline and The BoxTrolls, which we mentioned the other day are coming on 8/31 from Shout! Factory, look for similar editions of ParaNorman and Kubo and the Two Strings on 9/14. Each will include “Inside LAIKA interviews with the studio’s animation team, Never-Before-Seen Animation Test Footage, and Feature-Length Storyboards.” And yet, we can’t help wishing that these were proper 4K Ultra HD releases. These discs also don’t include the much-love Blu-ray 3D editions. So hopefully, there will be more deluxe releases at a later date.
Paramount has set Georgetown for release on DVD and Digital on 6/22. The film stars Christoph Waltz, Vanessa Redgrave and Annette Bening, and it was directed by Waltz.
Kino Lorber Studio Classics has set Robert Clouse’s Golden Needles (1974) for Blu-ray release on 9/21. They also have Denys de La Patellière’s Rififi in Paris (1966, aka The Upper Hand) coming on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/14. Their Kolchak: The Night Stalker – The Complete Series Blu-ray release is also now set to street in October (the exact date is TBA).
MVD will release Omerta: The Act of Silence on DVD and Digital on 6/8.
Lionsgate has set Initiation for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/20. The studio also has The Spanish Princess: Part 2 coming to DVD only on 7/20.
And KimStim will release Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s To the Ends of the Earth on DVD and Digital on 6/8.
