All right, this is just a very quick update this evening to bring you some breaking release news nuggets...

First though, our own Tim Salmons has just posted his thoughts on Andrew J. Kuehn’s Terror in the Isles (1984) on Blu-ray from Scream Factory, a Universal clip showcase featuring footage from a host of modern and classic horror films. You’ll find that here.

Now then... in announcement news, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just officially announced Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal: The Complete First Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/1.

This is interesting, because the first half of the season aired on Adult Swim way back in October 2019. Then, the season’s remaining episodes finally aired in October of 2020. Word is the show has been renewed for a second season as well, though no release date for this has yet been announced. [Read on here...]

In any case, the Blu-ray and DVD (SRP $29.98 and $24.98) will each include all 10 episodes of the series, along with Behind the Scenes Interviews. You can see the cover artwork above left and also below.

Also today, PBS has revealed that Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s new three-part, six-hour documentary series Hemingway will debut on 4/5 on the PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel. It’s then set to arrive on Blu-ray and DVD a month later on 5/4.

Eureka will release the Hong Kong action-horror comedy Encounter of the Spooky Kind (1980) on Blu-ray in the UK on 6/21. The film stars Sammo Hung.

And the big news today, though we’ve yet to see an official press release, is that Lionsgate will bow James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s Saw (2004) on 4K Ultra HD on 5/4. We’ll post more details when we have them, but we do have the cover artwork for you (below).

Also coming to 4K from Arrow Video on 6/29 is Dario Argento’s The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, featuring Dolby Vision HDR and sound in DTS-HD Master Audio format.

Finally, retail sources are confirming that Universal’s long-rumored 4K Ultra HD release of Smokey and the Bandit will finally drop on 6/1. Again, we’ll post more details as we hear them officially from the studio. This follows in the wake of their 5/11 release of the Smokey and the Bandit 3-Film Collection on Blu-ray only.

Here’s a look at the cover art for some of the titles mentioned above (with Amazon pre-order links if available)...

Primal: The Complete First Season (Blu-ray Disc) Saw (4K Ultra HD) The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (4K Ultra HD)

That’s all for today. Stay tuned!
